"Okay, Dr. Bhavya. Please, can we talk if only for one last time?" Indrajit asks, clearing his throat. He knows he sounds weak. He feels weaker.

"I have the next thirty minutes free. Say what you have to say, then leave. And don't ever show me your face again." Dr. Bhavya replies sharply and the walks inside her cabin.

Her words hit him like a slap. But he nods. He deserves every bit of it.

She walks into her cabin whild he follows her in slowly, shutting the door behind him, locking it. Not because he wants privacy. But because he knows she needs to let out her anger and he needs to hear every word.

He turns to face her but she doesn't glance up. She sits in her chair- calm and composed flipping through her documents like he is invisible.

He takes the seat opposite her, eyes never leaving her face.

"I am sorry, Vida." He utters softly looking at her.

Her fingers frozen in shock while her fingers tighten around the file in her hands. She then lifts her eyes and looks at him directly.

"Don't you dare call me that. You lost the right the day you disappeared like a coward." She snaps.

"I know. But I needed you to know that I-" He whispers.

"No, Indrajit. You don't get to say anything. You don't get to act like the wounded one here." She throws the pen down and slams the file shut.

"Do you know what it felt like? To wait for you even after you broke my heart? To stand at our usual meeting spot like a fool with flowers in my hand while everyone stared at me with pity? You just vanished. No message. No goodbye. Nothing!" Tears burn in her eyes but she doesn't let them fall.

"I tried calling you every day. I begged our mutual friends to get me your address. And you know what I got in return? Silence. No, it was a bloody black hole." She remarks.

"I was scared. I saw what Baba and Chhorda were doing after Didibhai ran away. They wanted to kill her, her husband. And I couldn't let that happen to you." He says, voice low as he understands that her wounds are more deeper than he thought.

"Oh, so you chose for me? You played God and decided my fate because you were scared? You thought I couldn't take it? That I wasn't strong enough?" She yells.

"I thought I was protecting you." He replies.

"Bullshit." She snaps, her voice filled with rage.

"You didn't protect me. You destroyed me. You made me feel like I wasn't worth the fight. Like I wasn't enough for you to stay."

He bows his head, guilt weighing him down.

"I didn't know what else to do. I watched Baba scream about honour and killing. I saw Chhorda tracking Didibhai with a gun. I thought if I stayed with you, they would hurt you too or worse. I left because I loved you." He says but she laughs in response which sounds bitter and broken.

"That's not love, Indrajit. That's fear. And you let fear win." She says looking at him and he finally looks up, eyes glossy.

"I have regretted it every single day. I tried to keep tabs on you. I even wrote letters but I never had the courage to send them." He says, a single tear slide out of his eye.

"Well, I lived through every moment of your absence. My father died thinking you would come back. My mother never stopped praying for you. And me? I stopped living. I just survived." Her voice cracks.
