Chapter 5: Outsourcing.
......

Rimuru had been negligent, astonishingly so.

The steady rise of his apathy across the years wasn't lost on him, but he never seemed to realise how out of touch he was.

He had even overlooked the fact that Tempest now mandated Otherworlders to take a 4-year course in any accredited University.

The true bounds of his ignorance were…eye opening.

Looking at the huge screen that casually announced a public execution — something he never really expected to see in the Cardinal World —- he was filled with conflicted feelings.

What kind of person would he be if he started meddling directly with Tempest now?

Rimuru wouldn't say he cared if the criminals lived or died, he might even go as far as doing the job himself if it was convenient.

He could see the logic behind Ayase’s order, she wanted to strike fear into the hearts of whoever she was busy hunting.

But since when did Tempest become a place where such measures were necessary?

Rimuru didn't know, and that annoyed him.

His current state was a contradiction, clean and simple.

He had turned his attention away for so long, and yet he was dissatisfied with the current affairs.

Really, what was he even doing?

Rimuru turned his senses to Nathan, whose eyes were glued to the screen, though for different reasons than most.

What did the kid think of all of it?

How would he react if he knew that the one person he had decided to trust in this world cared so little for it?

“Her Highness is amazing isn't she?” The goblin asked, his eyes possessing the same glow of blind devotion that monsters tended to possess.

“Yeah, she certainly is,” Rimuru responded.

After all, she was lasting much longer than he was.

Rimuru sighed inwardly before grabbing Nathan and absorbing the already wrapped snacks with Azathoth.

Offering only a curt statement to alert the otherworlder of their departure, he casually threw him into a Space-time gate he had opened.

Nathan didn't cry out in shock like the last time, he seemed to be deep within his thoughts.

But at the moment, Rimuru couldn't be bothered. He already had his own thoughts to drown in, he was not interested in more.

Rimuru stepped into the gate immediately after, and arrived at his destination.

Around him, the sky was entirely devoid of its natural blue colour. Instead, it was a blazing yellow.

There seemed to be a countless number of spheres in it, that swelled and disappeared endlessly.

Of course, these spheres weren't actually spheres at all.

They were simply nuclear magic bombs, exploding over and over for eternity. The shockwaves and heat didn't reach the ground thanks to some rather complicated barriers Carrera had gotten Geld to help install, but the sight still looked unreasonably violent…

Rimuru’s face twitched as he once again complained about Carrera’s design choices in his mind.

‘Her love for explosions is a bit concerning…should I take Nathan somewhere else?’
