Sticking Around

"Remember in the first grade, when we met, I accidentally shoved a red crayon up my nose, and you helped me yank it out, and I had red peices of crayon up my nose, and around it, and there was my boogers left on the stick, it was gross!" Ashley giggled, and walked beside me on the street.

"Yeah, and after that you thanked me and gave me a hug, and then I introduced you to Shay and Lucy. That's how it all started." I said, sheilding my eyes from the sun, and smiling brightly at Ashley.

"Hey, do you want to go in to that cafe across the street?" Ashley suggested, pointing to a small building across the road with pale pink letter at the roof spelling out 'Crunchin' Munchin' and the bottom half of the place was pale blue.
"Yeah, sure, but, I didn't bring money, well, not much anyway."

"Oh, well, how much did you bring?"

"Only $1.00..." I replied.

"Oh, well that could buy you a caramel..." She started, "You know what, I'll pay, it's on me."

I raised my eyebrows, "Really? You're the best friend ever! I love you!"

"Tro, it's only the coffee shop, it's not like it's going to be one hundred dollars per biscuit."

"I know, I know..." I laughed, "So, shall we?" I led my arm out to Ashley.

"We shall," Ashley linked arms with me and we skipped across the road, and entered 'Crunchin' Munchin'. When we walked in, we got wafted with warm air and the smell of bread baking. That is the best smell ever. We took the only free table, that had two seats. We sat down and looked at the menu.

"Oh my god!" Ashley shrieked.

"What?"

"I just found black beans and brussel sprouts on this menu!" She replied.

I made a face of disgust, "Don't tell me you were planning on ordering that..."

"No way! That sounds really disgusting and foul, god, no way!"

We both laughed,

"Oh, I think I'll have the warm pancakes with vanilla ice-cream? For $3.19?" I gave Ashley the puppy dog eyes.

"OK...I suppose." She replied, rolling her eyes.

I squealed, "You know what they say, friends that buy you food are friends for life."

"For life," we shared a moment together, "So, should I get a chocolate chip waffles and syrup?" Ashley said.

I smiled at her.

"I'll go order." Ashley got up off of her seat and approached the bar to order.
I heard her voice telling the man behind the counter our order. My stomach was rumbling really loud, I hadn't eaten anything since that musli at 9:00 AM. I don't even like musli, nuts, raisins, wheat, yuck! Especially together!
Ashley soon came back holding two plates with steam bursting off of them, and set them on the table, then sat down again.

"This looks yummy!" she said rubbing her hands together and licking her lips.

"It sure does," I agreed, smelling the pancakes.

"Hey, I have something to tell you..." Ashley said with an occupied attention, and excited tone.

"You do? Well, what is it?"

"Wel-l-l..." Ashley said, revealingly, "I got you a date!"

I was shocked, "A-a date?"

It was kind of insulting that she would set me up for a date, I mean, she actually took the time to think that I need a date, basically meaning that I haven't had a date in a while or something - maybe I was just a bit paranoid.

"Ashley! With who?" I snapped.

"I'm doing you a favor, believe me."

"With who?" I moaned.

Ashley started to squeal, "Keegan Allan!"

Shock shattered within my bones. Keegan was. Well IS, my crush! I think I vented about him previously. Anyway, I couldn't turn my smile back to my original mouth's position.

"Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god! Ashley!" I squeaked.

She clapped her hands together, "I knew you'd be happy!"

"Bitch please, I'm more than happy I'm freaking over the moon!"

Ashley giggled.

"How? When? Where?"

"I asked him, it was lunch time today, at school." Ashley said.

"Did he say yes?"

"Well, if he said no, YOU WOULDN'T BE GOING ON THIS DATE!"

"Ok, ok!" I said, "So, when and where is this date?"

"Um, 6:00PM tomorrow at the lake, can you make it?"

"Yes! Thank you, Ash."

"That's what friends are for. Anyway, let's eat these bad boys before they get cold. " she replied, eating her waffles.
