>>Lucy's POV<<
I swung open the door and jumped to my surprise when I saw a group of children standing on my porch wearing Christmas themed costumes.
"We wish you a merry Christmas, we wish you a merry Christmas, we wish you a merry Christmas and a happy new year!" They sang with a grin on each of their faces.
I smile awkwardly. "Oh." I gulped. "How sweet?"
I didn't know what to say to them. People have never come to my door Christmas carolling before - and I certainly have not answered to them. Besides, I thought Christmas carolling was so ... out.
They stared at me showing less expression on their faces, like they were expecting me to say something.
"We wish you a merry Christmas, we wish you a merry Christmas, we wish you a merry Christmas and a happy new year!"
Okay, hold up. Did I just hallucinate the last minute? I don't think so.
I laughed awkwardly. "Yeah, I- I heard."
One little boy leaned and took the door handle, pulling it to slam shut in my face.
I looked to the side in confusion, wondering if I should call their parents. Whatever, I'm sure they'll have a blast round at Ashley's mom's house. She gives them candy like it's Halloween. I mean, who spends extra money on candy? For freakish kids? I don't know.
"Who was at the door?" Mom shouted from upstairs.
Me and my mom were still not on the best terms. Especially after she was telling me all those horrible things about Ezra. I didn't want to hate her, and I didn't want her to hate me. But, there's no going back, and I'm glad I made her realise that I do love him. Regardless of whether the school do something about it.
"Just some kids out Christmas Carolling." I shouted back, heading for the kitchen to fetch some food.
I heard a loud thump and crash on the floor from upstairs, followed by a high pitched scream from my mother.
"Mom, are you-"
"Christmas carolling?" She hurried down the stairs, with a grin ear to ear.
"Y..eah?" I said slowly, wondering why she was so excited.
"I love Christmas carolling!" She squealed, grabbing her coat from the couch. "Come on, grab your jacket!"
"Why?" I squinted my eyes. "Where are we going?"
She looked at me, still holding her festive smile. "Have you been awake for the last few seconds?"
"Oh god, I was hallucinating, wasn't I?" I spoke to myself, off in thought.
"We're going Christmas Carolling! Come on!" She jumped up and down, clapping her hands as she searched across the room for her boots.
I groaned. "You're not serious, are you?"
She stopped what she was doing and dropped her smile. "If this is about Ezra-"
"It's not about Ezra, mom." I snapped, rolling my eyes. "I just don't want to go out like a three year old in four inches of snow, knocking from door to door and cursing everyone with my horrible voice - oh, yeah, I can't sing either!"
"Calm down. You know what? fine, we won't go." She sighed. "Because it's a crime in the 21st century to please some old people like those little children-"
"Are you calling me an old person?"
"What? No." She tutted. "But if you're not going, I am." She took her hat and slammed the door shut, letting in a cold breeze as she did so.
