>>Lucy's POV<<
I opened my eyes, holding my hands out to the side of my face, sheltering my eyes from the sun. I sighed when I realised I had school today. Nervously, I checked the time on my phone, I gasped with relief when I realised that it was only six o'clock in the morning. I sat up and threw my clothes on. A pink dress with clear sequins on it, and black boots. I put my everyday make up on too, and applied my new perfume. I smiled at the jasmine and honey scent.
The day began and it was soon lunch at school. I had ordered a lentil soup and a baguette. Sitting opposite me was Ashley, and Shay. Shay had been acting weird since yesterday when Alison had called for her, I'm still longing to know what she said to her, and I can tell Ashley is, too, by her gaze on Shay. Shay was just nibbling away at her sandwich awkwardly. This whole conversation was awkward, not that there was one, nobody was speaking. The only thing I could hear was the other students screaming there heads off and laughing at one another's jokes. But did they have to talk that loud?
Ashley smiled at me and I returned her with one. "So..." I tried to break the ice.
"So..." Ashley repeated, Shay stayed silent.
"Have you made a start on your homework, Shay?" I asked, remembering her massive assignment for history.
She groaned. "No, after tomorrow it's the holidays so I have enough time."
I remembered, no school for six weeks! I was excited, but I didn't really have any plans for the summer.
"Ooh! Speaking of, do you guys want to go camping?" Ashley squealed excitedly.
I immediately spat out my bread. What? What? Camping? Oh hell no.
Shay's eyes widened at the words Ashley spoke. She had to be kidding."What?" Me and Shay said simultaneously.
Ashley smiled at us. "Come on, it'll be fun!"
Shay almost choked. "Oh, what? Sleeping on mud by a fire?"
"Yeah, what if we get attacked by a werewolf!" Ashley said sarcastically waving her hands in the air dramatically. "It wouldnt be on the ground!"
Shay looked at me with fear, "Oh my god, Luce, she wants us to sleep in trees!"
I rolled my eyes at Shay, and sighed. "I think she meant sleep in a tent." Shay showed a face of realisation.
"Yeah, you're begginning to sound like me." Ashley chuckled. "Anyway, camping is a great idea. Think of all the fun we'll have."
I raised my eyebrows at her. "Since when has mud and rain been classed as 'fun' to you, Ash? You're forever complaining if a crumb touches you. Oh, and speaking of, there's one there from your biscuit on your jacket."
Ashley shrieked and flicked the small singular crumb laying on her chest on to the floor.
"See?" I proved.
"Ugh, guys, this'll be something different. You can bring your little friends or boyfriends, girlfriends whatever. Just please! It will be something great for all of us, something we all need."
I thought about it, camping was never my kind of thing, but I really hated the sound of Ashley's wimpering.
I took a deep breath. "How long?"
"Two weeks." Ashley pleaded. I stare at her. "Ugh, okay, however long, or 'short' you want."
I sighed. "One week."
Ashley's face lit up, and she cheered. It was actually kind of adorable. "Really?"
"Yes." I replied. Shay turned to me and her eyes popped out of their sockets.
"Oh my god! This is gonna be the best summer ever!" She squealed. "I'm gonna go call Tyler." She got up out of her seat, clutching her phone, and soon disappeared into the distance.
"Oh my god, Lucy. What were you thinking? I don't want to go camping!" Shay complained, scrunching her eyebrows.
"Um you don't have to come. Plus, it was my decision."
"Uh, I'm going if your going."
"Aw, Shay!" I was in complete awe, holding my heart in my hand.
"Well I don't want to be a loner the whole holidays." And the moment broke.
"Oh."
"Seriously though, camping?" She says.
"I don't really want to either, but, let's just do this for Ash. She's really excited about this, and you can invite anyone you like." I wink at her.
She rolls her eyes, "I don't have anyone to bring."
"Well what about that Alison?" I suggest.
"I hardly know her, Lucy."
"Well, then this is the perfect opportunity to get to know her. "
Shay tapped her chin."Fine then!"
-
Hours later, I was laying on my bed, staring at a textbook. I don't know why, it was officially the holidays. I decided to go downstairs and ask my parents' permission to go camping.
I sat on the couch. "Mom, dad!" I called, I soon heard a reply. "Yes?"
"I need to ask you guys something.""Be right there!"
They soon came to my accompany on couch. Mom took her last gulp on coffee and then her and dad both had my attention.
"What is it that you wanted to ask us, Luce?" Mom asked, a little concerned.
"It better not be a mac book air!" Dad moaned.
"Byron!" A squeal came from my mother.
"Well, I was just saying!"
Mom scowled. "Anyway, what's up, Luce?"
"I was wondering if I could go camping with a few friends." mom's face turned from happy to straight. "Please, just for a week!"
"Camping? I'm sorry, Lucy. But that's not going to be allowed." Mom said softly.
Why wouldn't they just let me go? Why?
"Why?"
"Well, because me and your mother will have difficulty contacting you if anything goes wrong."
"Dad, it's a campsite, there's security there." they glanced at eachother doing that weird parent commincation thing. "Please,"
"Okay then." Mom said, looking grumpy.
"Ugh, thank you, thank you, thank you!" I pulled the two into a tight hug.
