The sound of conch shells amplified as we walked towards the mandap, indicating the bride's entry. Although we were late, the villagers led us to the forefront and very soon we found ourselves standing quite close to the mandap. Our little Kusum had finally written her destiny all by herself. It was a moment of joy for me and Bondita more than anyone else, because Kusum is our first success story, the stepping stone to change. Then came the moment when the bride finally had to disclose her face by moving aside the beetle leaves behind which she was hiding her face, making way for the auspicious vision.

My eyes naturally turned to meet Bondita's while my grip on her hand became more firm. The wedding ambience, holy chants and divinity of the moment made my heart skip a beat. It felt like I was seeing her for the first time ever and a shiver ran through my body at the very thought. Still, I continued to drown in those heavenly pools of love without breaking the eye contact, until she dropped her eye lids feeling shy. An affectionate smile broke across my lips as I continued to admire my woman. The colour of her cheeks outshined the silver moonlight and the golden hue of the wedding venue painted by oil lamps.

Am I the reason for the glow or is it her inner light that illuminates her body? I asked myself.

Meanwhile, someone offered us flower petals to shower on the bride and groom. Bondita and I grabbed two handfuls and mouthed a polite thanks to the helper. Bondita was too excited and instantly got into action, as if she had been waiting very long for this moment. With a cheerful smile, she threw the petals towards the stage with full force. But I couldn't take my eyes off her. Involuntarily my hands started showering those rose petals on my Bondita. She widened her eyes and signaled to stop; but I was not in a mood to listen. Giving up, she passed a tender smile of acceptance which also put her shyness on view.

Looking around to make sure everyone was busy, she pulled the side of my shirt to whisper, "Biristera babu, why are you putting your image at stake by behaving like an untamed youth. Remember, you are a renowned lawyer and a Roy Chowdhary.", busily throwing those petals towards the couple that were making rounds around the holy fire.

"When I am with you I can't help becoming untamed. If you have any remedy to my problem other than denial, then please tell me.", I cooed in her ear, making her slightly quiver due to the titillating sensation that my act caused. "And this time, you have to complete the vows that I initiated ten years back; with full wisdom."

My words changed the mood of the moment from light-hearted to intense and our eyes locked exchanging silent promises. A decade ago, we did exchange vows in front of the holy fire, but Bondita was too small to understand what those meant. However, she never left any stone unturned to fulfil her duties, although she was too small to fit in the role of a wife. So, our relationship had always been conducted in my way, which is kind of unfair. Finally, the time has come for my partner to rise to power and fully claim her position. She would now become my equal half, in every sense.

"Sakha babu, I have been desperately counting minutes to complete our incomplete story.", her words were interrupted by the priest's voice that called the attention of audience for the sindhoor dhaan ritual.

"I should have purchased a box of sindhoor on the way, so that I could've made you mine right now in this auspicious moment.", I expressed my desire, with a hint of disappointment for not getting the idea earlier. I wish I was as much impulsive as I was a decade ago, so that I do not have to stay away from Bondita for a long time.

"Why do you want to make space for our story in someone else's book? This time is auspicious for Kusum and her husband. We have our union reserved for another muhurat. Until then, wait, mister barrister.", Bondita replied nonchalantly, witnessing the sacred union of her friend and friend's husband, with shining eyes.
