The time takes place when they're 15, no explanation needed, it's all in the title ;)

Hiccup's POV

"Woohoo! Yeah! Nice one, Toothless!"

Toothless warbled in response, gliding smoothly through the afternoon sky. The wind rushed past us, cool and freeing.

We were supposed to have dragon training today, but I just didn’t feel like it. No one ever really listens to me anyway except Astrid, but she turns everything into a competition, the gang follows her lead, and chaos breaks loose. Guess who ends up cleaning it up? Yeah me.

I felt a little guilty sneaking off without a word, but honestly, who would even notice? Half of them show up late and ignore whatever I try to teach.

Lost in thought, I didn’t notice the large, odd-looking stone jutting out ahead. I yanked Toothless to the side, but it was too late. We crashed hard into the sand of a nearby island.

Groaning, my head spinning, I heard Toothless let out a pained warble. I scrambled to his side.

"You okay, bud? I’m so sorry."

He puffed smoke from his nose and rolled his eyes. I gave his head a gentle pat, he was fine. Then a sharp squawk cut through the air.

The gang swooped down from the sky, Astrid landing first on Stormfly with a glare sharp enough to slice through steel.

"Why are you here? We have dragon training and you're off doing who knows what!"

She was fuming, the others hovering awkwardly behind their dragons. I raised an eyebrow.

"Wow, thanks for the warm welcome. And this is the one time I’ve skipped or showed up late. Not like it matters, you guys don’t even listen when I try to teach."

The gang erupted in protest, lots of "No!" and "What?" but I rolled my eyes.

"Really? Fishlegs only pays attention when there’s a dragon fact involved. The twins destroy everything because they hate listening-"

"That’s true," Tuffnut cut in, earning glares from the rest.

"-Snotlout’s too busy bragging to care. And Astrid…" I hesitated, but one look from her told me to stop talking unless I wanted a black eye.

I sighed. "Look, if you don’t want to be part of the Academy, you’re free to walk out. But your dragon stays."

They gasped, their faces falling. I didn’t wait for a reply, I mounted Toothless, ready to take off. But something caught my eye. A shadow darted behind the trees.

I signaled the others to be quiet and follow. They mounted up, and we flew low over the forest, eyes scanning below.

"Hiccup," Ruffnut whispered, pointing. I followed her gaze and spotted a figure running along a strange path through the trees.

I kept close, watching. But when I glanced back to check on the gang, the figure vanished. I halted and signaled to land.

Once we hit the ground, we ran after the path. A strange white light glowed up ahead. The figure turned, looked at us, then stepped into it. I rushed forward and tried to stop but the light pulled me in.

I hit the ground with a thud. Then the rest of the gang landed on top of me.

"G-guys… g-get off…" I muttered, winded.

We stood and looked around, no light, no portal... and no dragons.

"Where are we?" Snotlout asked, stretching his arms.
