Hiccup's POV

"Okay, gang, take your younger selves back into your huts. We’ll talk about everything tomorrow. Heather, are you staying here?"

Older me asked Heather, who nodded firmly. "Yeah, I want to help you guys fix this problem. I’ll stay with Astrid."

Older me just smiled and looked at us.

"Well, go find your... uh, older selves and oh! No telling what’s going to happen in their future. We know you’re curious, but we’ll only answer your questions if we think it won’t mess with your decisions now and affect your future."

Me and my gang nodded, I was surprised how the older gang easily followed the instructions. No complaints, no ridiculous ideas thrown in. A clear throat brought me out of my trance. I looked up and saw my older self staring at me, then at the rest of the older gang.

"I know what you’re thinking," he said. "Don’t worry, soon they’ll all appreciate you being their leader. Just don’t give up, yeah? If you do what they’re doing now, you’ll just have more rebels, and nobody will listen."

Older me smiled and motioned for me to follow. We walked together toward what I guessed was his hut.

"I have a question," I said.

He chuckled. "Of course you do. Go ahead."

I hesitated but went for it. "What happened with, uh… Dad? You’ve grown a lot, and, well, how do I say this…"

"Us being chief?" he blurted out. I looked at him surprised, then nodded.

"Well, we got busy. Dad knows how much this means to all of us. So he agreed that we’d fly out of Berk and find an island where we can plan and find more dragons."

I was shocked. He said it like it was an easy decision, and like Dad was perfectly calm about me being far away from Berk.

"Don’t worry. Berk’s only a day or two flight away from The Edge—if you’re on a dragon."

We stopped in front of a big hut—perfectly built with intricate designs and a lookout spot for sunsets. I walked to the edge and stared at the glowing sun, just about to dip below the horizon.

"Beautiful, isn’t it? When I’m stressed or in a bad mood, I just sit here and watch it," older me said.

"We both love the sunset. Choosing this spot was a good call," I said, still watching the sun.

"Yeah, it wasn’t easy to get here, but worth it. Wanna come inside? You look tired."

I followed him inside. The hut was cozy and filled with little things that made it home. On the wall, I noticed several tails for Toothless in different colors—red, blue, yellow, green—all carefully crafted and hanging like trophies.

"So, how did you get like this? You know… confident, strong?"

Older me smiled but didn’t brag. "It took a lot of mess-ups, a lot of stubbornness from everyone, including me. I learned that being a leader isn’t about being the loudest or the toughest. It’s about listening, even when you don’t want to."

I nodded slowly, thinking about how I’m definitely not there yet.

"And Astrid?" I asked. "You two seem close."

He laughed nervously. "We’ve always had each other’s backs. She’s one of the strongest people I know. But... well, that’s not really the story for today."

I glanced toward a corner and saw a bed with the sheets all rumpled, like two people had been there recently. My eyes flicked back to him, suspicious.

Older me chuckled nervously. "You’re reading way too much into that."
