Third POV
Berk was in chaos—flames devoured the village, turning homes into smoldering ash. Vikings limped with burns and bandaged wounds. Animals fled in terror, and for once, no dragons were in sight—they had been driven away by Berk’s newly forged weapons meant for protection.
Amid the screaming and smoke, a mother’s voice pierced the noise.
“My daughter! Oh, Astrid! Where is she?!”
Ingrid Hofferson frantically searched the crowd, her eyes wild. Her husband rushed to her side.
“Ingrid, don't worry. Our Astrid is fine—we just have to find her,” he said, placing a calming hand on her back.
Chief Stoick approached the anxious couple. “Hoffersons, your daughter is perfectly safe. My boy hid her until the raid passed,” he reassured them with a kind smile.
The couple cried tears of relief, and Stoick led them to the forge.
There, young Hiccup sat beside little Astrid, who winced slightly as her ankle—sprained—was wrapped in bandages. Hiccup, who had spent time with Gothi learning basic healing, had used his knowledge to help her. He earned a sharp punch from Astrid when he accidentally touched the sore spot, but she calmed down when he gently and carefully continued wrapping her ankle.
It had all happened during the raid. Smoke choked the air, and dragons flew overhead, roaring. Vikings shouted as they maneuvered massive catapults and swung heavy weapons.
Astrid, ever the bold child, had wanted to help. But her mother, overprotective and cautious, had told her to hide.
"You’re not ready to fight a dragon your size," Ingrid had said sternly.
Astrid obeyed—at first. But then she spotted an injured bird on the ground. Her heart tugged. She loved birds. Without thinking, she ran toward it.
A nearby Viking, charging forward with a catapult, didn’t see her. Just as the massive wheels threatened to roll over her, she was yanked forward—hard. She stumbled and twisted her ankle.
Hiccup, the one who had pulled her out of harm’s way, looked horrified.
“I’m sorry—I can help you,” he offered shyly.
Astrid didn’t like accepting help, but her ankle throbbed. She gave a reluctant nod. Hiccup gently supported her, wrapping one arm around her waist while she draped an arm over his shoulder.
After tending to her ankle, Hiccup gave a sheepish smile.
“I’m Hiccup. I like to draw.”
Astrid blinked. “Hiccup? That’s your name? Who names their kid Hiccup?” She tilted her head. “That’s like naming a sheep ‘Fluffy.’”
But then she grinned. “I’m Astrid the Fearless.”
“Whoa, cool!” Hiccup’s eyes lit up. “I wish I had something like that in my name. Dad says I have to earn mine.”
“Your dad’s right. A title’s something you earn,” Astrid said wisely.
“I have something for you,” Hiccup said suddenly. He ran to the back of the forge, rummaging through some scraps. Astrid raised an eyebrow. But he doesn't even know her enough to give her presents.
