CHAPTER 33 - In Love With You

"Tin! Toni! Gising!" A familiar voice called out in urgent tones and intruded on her emotionally draining dream. It raised and gained strength gradually, resonating through her ears.

'Sam,' she uttered under her breath when she recognized who the voice belonged to. The scenery faded away around her, and she opened her eyes to see Sam's wide-eyed look. His eyes were gleaming with concern.

Their eye contact repelled when Direk Joel asked in a strained voice, "Tin, okay ka lang ba?" His face slackened and his eyes haunted by inner anxiety.

Toni tipped her head to the side to see where Direk Joel was. Her brows knitted in confusion. She found John, Gina, Jing and some of the crew standing with Direk Joel, sporting worried looks. She attempted to reply to Direk Joel's question, but her mouth seemed too dry to speak. So, she just nodded.

She directed her eyes back to Sam, hoping to get answers why she was lying on the ground and why everyone was surrounding them. A spasm crossed his face and beads of perspiration formed on his forehead. Their eyes met and locked. His lips twitched, and this caught Toni's attention. Like a speed of light, memories flooded back to her.

She remembered how he confessed to her and how her lips touched his. She was thankful in a way that the conversation she had with her sister wherein she told her and she admitted to herself that she still loves Sam didn't really happen. It was all just a dream. Or is it really?

Instantly, her heart raced double time, and her chest grew heavy. She felt wetness on her cheeks and realized that she'd started crying.

'Ano ba, Celestine. Bakit ka umiiyak? Ano bang kaiyak iyak dun? Umamin lang naman sayo si Sam. Tumigil ka nga! Hindi ito ikakaunlad ng bansa natin,' She urged on to herself, trying her best to cool down.

She took a deep breath, closed her eyes for a brief moment and gathered all her willpower to bring back her demeanor. She wiped the tears from her eyes and sat up. She took one look at Sam, whose face was taut and drawn, and staggered to her feet.

She approached Direk Joel with a restrained visage, "Direk, pwede po ba tayong mag-usap?"

Direk Joel nodded.

Toni planted herself on the traditionally styled armchair at Direk Joel's office. She watched as Direk Joel plopped himself down on the chair opposite hers.

"Okay ka lang ba, Toni? Nag-faint ka kanina. Gusto mo ba samahan muna kita sa clinic," Direk Joel started, his face pensive.

She dismissed the idea and said, "Physically okay ako, Direk. But emotionally po, hindi. Dederetsuhin ko na po kayo, Direk Joel. I'm sorry po, pero I'm thinking of not to push through with this project na po."
