"Did you just say na gwapo ako?" Sam asked, a broad smile creeping onto his lips, catching up with Toni. He winked at her teasingly.
Toni's breath hitched in her throat when she realised what she had just said. Her eyes bulged and her heart palpitated. She cleared her throat and stuttered slightly, " Uhm.. U-umupo ka na Sam. Ayusin na n-natin yang sugat mo." It was palpable that she was digressing and shunning eye contact with Sam. Sam has an undoubtedly pleasing attractive face but Toni would never admit that; Well, not to him anyway. She learned to keep it to herself, especially now that she has Paul and now that she's engaged.
Sam smirked at how Toni avoided his question.
Toni trudged towards the living room. She settled herself at the end of their European-styled sofa. She patted the seat next to her, gesturing Sam to sit on it. He obeyed with the smirk still plastered on his face. He plopped himself down and allowed Toni to work on his wounded lower arm. They were so close that their upper arms were touching and it was sending shivers down Sam's spine.
Sam laid his eyes on Toni. He could still see the trace of worry in her eyes. He studied every feature of her face, like what he always does when she's around and it held him spellbound. He was enthralled.
Toni on the other hand, was unaware that Sam was admiring her visage. She was engrossed to attending to Sam's bleeding wound. She had poured a small amount of alcohol on it consequently making Sam jolt a little in sharp shooting pains. Then, she applied a thin layer of antibiotic cream to keep the surface moist. She stroked her finger over his scraped skin until most of it was covered with ointment. Sam couldn't help but feel electrocuted by the way her finger moved against his skin. Then, finally, she covered the wound with plaster. She pressed the edges of the plaster gently to make sure it was glued to his skin.
Toni tilted her head to face Sam and exclaimed elatedly, "Ayan! Okay na!" Then, she clapped her hands like her usual bubbly self.
Sam, still fixedly looking at her, spoke in appreciation, "Thank you, Toni. You didn't have to do that." He ended with a charismatic smile.
Toni returned his ample smile inwardly.
"Stay here. I'll get you something to drink. Juice or Coke?" Toni said, getting up to her feet.
Sam was hesitant at first but he realised that he wanted to spend the afternoon with her so he replied, still smiling, "Coke's fine with me."
"Okay," she said, more to herself, and flee to the kitchen.
She grabbed one litre of Coke from the fridge and came to a decision to make him something to eat as well. Tiptoeing, while one of her hands was leaning on the countertops, she reached for a loaf bread stored and stocked in the upper kitchen cupboard. But the bread was further back and it was on a higher shelf that her long arm wasn't long enough to grasp it. She tiptoed as high as she could until her feet started to hurt, but she still couldn't reach it. She grunted, exasperated. Turning optimistic, she jumped and strived to get it again, but still failed. She grumbled at full volume, her hands grazing the sides of her face, "Hay! Naman oh!"
Sam was checking on his twitter account when he heard Toni's grumble. His face slackened and his brows drew together. He bolted to his feet and revved up to where Toni was. He found her looking upset and frustrated, leaning on the countertops. Thick with fretful tone, he queried, "What happened?"
