Chapter 27

Toni picked herself up in a bolt and ignored Sam's effort to calm her down. Her eyes dropped on her body. She was wearing a loose white shirt and black shorts that she usually wears as undergarment for her dresses. 'Hindi pwede 'to..' She shook her head in disgrace. She never imagined herself doing it. This whole situation was mortifying her.

Her attention was grabbed by Sam when he rose to his feet.

He eyed her peeringly. "Good Morning?" He attempted to break the searching and sullen look she was giving him and flashed her a wide smile. But the expression on Toni's face seemed to be imperishable. She was glowering at him and had that haunted glint in her eyes. One possible reason that his brain came up with, why she was acting so strange and odd when they woke up, was that she had a horrible nightmare. But as he looked deeply and straight into her eyes, he knew it was more than just a nightmare. His brain processed on what Toni was trying to project. His eyes followed the path where her eyes lingered and that was when he realised what she was possibly thinking of.  

He started stepping towards her to explain but she backed away. Her expression turned into a bug-eyed look. Sam stopped in his tracks, realising that he was unintentionally scaring her away. Scaring her was the last thing he would ever do. He raised his hands in the air as if surrendering himself to a police, pleading for her to give him a chance to spell out what really happened.  

"May... nangyari... ba?"  Toni croaked and stammered. She looked at him directly, wanting answers.

Sam opened the door for Toni. She walked in and he followed. Toni immediately grabbed her phone in her pocket and checked if her mum already called. Her heart lurched as she swiped her phone open. She puffed in relief when she didn't see any missed calls or any messages at all.

While Toni was checking her phone, Sam's eyes landed on her body. Her drenched dress hugged her figure perfectly. All of his senses aroused.  His mouth hang low at how sexy she was. For a brief moment, drooling was inevitable. And when Toni turned at his direction, he jolted in surprise and closed his hanging mouth.

"Buti naman  hindi tumawag si Mommy. Kung hindi, patay talaga ako dun," she sighed.

Sam was still frozen like a statue. He couldn't quite recover at the sight to behold in front of him.

"Hoy, Sam!" Toni hollered at him. His head instinctively shot up and his eyes immediately met hers. He heaved a deep breath and gathered all his willpower to resist the luring magnet in her.

"Sorry. So, ano? Tumawag ba si tita?" He asked, fully back to his normal self.

"Hindi. Siguro tumawag na yun sa bahay at sinabi nina Kuya Jeni na tulog na ako."

Toni quivered and embraced herself. The wet clothes were starting to make her feel cold. Sam became aware of this and asked, "Bakit kasi tumakbo ka papunta sa car? You know it's raining outside."
