Chapter 15

Dina emerged from the back door, walking heavily, causing Sam and Toni snap their heads to her direction. Sam tilted his chin up and displayed an amiable smile as he greeted her. Dina's forehead created rumples and her brows creased, eyeing Sam. "Bakit kaya nandito si Sam Milby?" She studied him, rolling her eyes from the top of his head down to his feet. Swallowing, she couldn't take in the sight of Sam's clothes wrapping his toned body like a second skin, showing off his firm abdominal muscles. Resisting his charms, Dina sent him back a coy smile and craned her head to Toni.

"Pinapatawag niyo daw po ako?" She asked courteously, her hands clasped just below her hips.

"Oo, Dina. Pwede mo bang ikuha ng damit si Sam?" She instructed politely, giving Sam a momentary look when she mentioned his name.

"Okay po," she nodded and retreated.

Sam and Toni watched Dina walk away. When she had already entered the house, Sam bent on his knees to play with Wuwu. He rubbed his ears and nestled him. "Anong nangyari kay Wuwu?" Wuwu, enjoying the company of his new playmate, wagged his tail and pressed his face against Sam's cheek.

Toni joined in, kneeling down the ground and stroked Wuwu's golden fur repeatedly. "Nagka-allergy siya. Common skin allergy sa mga Golden Retrievers."

"Ah. Buti naman, he's okay now," his lips twitched at the corners as he ended.

Toni smiled back, even though she knows he didn't see it because he was too engrossed with her dog. Picking herself up, she spoke, "Nakalimutan ko palang magpakuha ng towel. Punta muna ako sa loob."

Sam snapped at her when she started talking and voiced when she finished,  "Okay. I'll stay here with Wuwu." His lips arched when he ended. Before fleeing inside the house, Toni stroked Wuwu one last time. When Sam saw Toni moved away, he, then, get back to cooing and fussing over Wuwu.

After a wee while, Toni came out from the house with towels resting on her shoulder. Sam rose to his feet and grinned the minute he saw Toni. He remained rooted to his spot while Toni walked on towards him, slowly reducing the distance between them.

Wuwu woofed animatedly and stuck his tongue out, the moment the familiar presence of Toni neared him and Sam. Toni grabbed one of the towels and handed it over to Sam.

"Thank you, Toni," Sam muttered gratefully. 

Toni responded with a smile and twinkles in her eyes. Gathering the locks of her hair on one side, she towelled it to make it dry. Sam was doing the same thing. He rubbed the towel back and forth his jet black hair until an ample amount of water was soaked up by the towel.  When they were both mopped up and dry enough, they decided to go back inside the house. While walking towards the door, Toni grabbed the hair tie in her pocket. She lifted her hands and collected her hair to put it up in a ponytail. Sam's eyebrows raised and his eyes bulged out slightly from its sockets. His shoulders started shaking. He covered his hand against his mouth, holding back a laugh. He fixed his eyes on her underarm once again and eventually, a hooting laugh erupted from his mouth.
