CHAPTER 28 - Red or Blue

Joseph looked at Toni bashfully and cracked a sheepish smile. The last time that he saw her was when she divulged on national television that he asked her sister on a date at Star Magic Ball.

Toni might be humble and kind-hearted, but when it comes to her sister's love life, she becomes a totally different person. From a sweet sister, she turns into an overprotective one. Joseph knows about this and meeting her in an unanticipated way made his knees wobble anxiously. He wasn't quite ready to meet her yet. There's a logical and understandable reason why Toni was strict on Cathy. She was the only sibling that she has. She doesn't wasn't her to get her heart broken numerous times. She cares about her and loves her deeply.

Cathy, who was standing in between the two, couldn't help but feel agitated on her spot as she watched them exchange inscrutable stares. She shot a pleading look at Toni, begging her to be welcoming and gentle towards him. Then, she gave Joseph a sympathetic glance, asking for an apology in case something horrible happens. And when the both of them didn't budge, she sighed internally and dragged him away briskly from the awkward scene. Halfway through the main door, she hollered to Toni, "Ate, kailangan ng umalis ni Jowsy. Hatid ko lang siya sa labas ha."

The second Joseph got out of the house, Cathy whispered to him slightly louder than normal, "Itetext na lang kita mamaya. Sorry. Thank you ulit sa pagsundo sa akin sa airport." Just when he was about to flash her a smile in reply, she slammed the door closed in his face.

Toni wended his way to her and queried, "Oh, bakit mo naman pinaalis agad si Joseph? Hindi mo man lang pinakain ng dinner." After she finished her sentence, she turned the knob to open the front door and looked if Joseph was still outside. She might be strict and overprotective, but she wasn't like the evil witch who would cast a spell on someone and drive them away. She found Joseph treading his way over to the gate and instantly shouted to call him, "Joseph!"

Joseph's head turned to the door where Toni and Cathy was. His eyebrows creased on his forehead. He was puzzled why Toni called him.

"Dito ka na magdinner," Toni called at the top of her voice.

He was grateful that Toni initiated that he eat dinner with them but there was no denying that being with Toni all night would make him shake in his shoes.  He laid his eyes on Cathy. She was wearing the same expression as he was. She had a panicky face on, nervous out of her wits. But he thought that maybe this was the chance to get to know the family. He heaved a deep breath and mustered all the courage left in his body before treading back to the house.

His eyes remained focus on Cathy. She was now giving him a bug-eyed look as if communicating to him telepathically to think of a way to escape. But he had already agreed to Toni and there was no breaking that arrangement.

When they were all about to head to the dining room, they heard an electronic buzzing sound from the gate, indicating that someone was outside. Jing ambled her way to the gate and opened it, only to find Sam leaning by the tall plant, waiting.

"Hi, Jing," He raised a smile upon seeing her.

"Hi, Sam. Bakit ka bumalik? May nakalimutan ka ba?" She asked, surprised at Sam's return.
