Y/N POV
Haggard breaths shook my body awake.
"B-breathe Y/N breathe." I told myself as my lips quivered.
That woman, those memories I'd always tried so hard to forget kept hunting me, my dreams.
My mother, that cruel and wicked woman that had once held me tightly and caressed me warmly, my mother the one that locked me in that hell without a second thought.
My breathing wasn't getting any better.
Shuffling out of bed, I rushed out the door.
I stomped through the hallway, ignoring the silence as thoughts swirled through my mind.
"Y/N, honey it will just take a second, it won't hurt."
Liar.
"This is for us Y/N, do you not love me? Is that it?"
GET OUT OF MY HEAD.
I reached the downstairs area, and headed towards the kitchen. I hadn't bothered to check the time, but the way the moonlight snuck through the windows, told me that it was somewhere around midnight.
My fingers scrambled through the cabinets reaching for a cup,and pouring some water with my shaking hands.
My legs, weakened from training and shaking with panic, folded under me, leaving me sitting on the floor, knees to my chest.
I downed the water a few seconds later, my breaths stabilizing, I filled the glass again and repeated the action, feeling my heart slowing its rhythm.
The voices faded away, as I leaned my head on the kitchen counter, closing my eyes and inhaling and exhaling.
I'm pathetic. Even after knowing that woman was dead, my body still shook at the memory of her and her words.
As my tears threatened to fall, I kept them in place, if I keep crying over my past, I won't be able to move forward, to live my life how I want.
I have to pick myself together, I've done it once, I can do it again.
Swiping my hand across my face, I stood up, wobbling before holding the edge of the counter.
Shit, I need to be careful.
"Y/N? What are you still doing awake?" Shota said coming through the front door.
Crap I totally forgot that Shota was out patrolling today.
I stood up straight, letting go of the counter. "I...couldn't sleep."
It wasn't necessarily a lie, but I couldn't help the way I avoided his eyes as I said those last words.
His steps inched closer to me as the seconds passed, until ultimately he stood in front of me, towering over my body. I don't know why, but his intense glare always made my skin feel hot and flushed. My breathing, which I had tried so hard to calm down, began speeding up upon feeling his presence.
"Did you..." he started. "..have a nightmare again?" I looked up, his eyes looking into mine
I've always hated people's pity, the way their eyes would look at me as if I were a broken doll, but his were different. They weren't pitying or judging me, they were comforting me.
I let out a breath. "..yes, I was a little startled and came to get a cup of water."
"Are you feeling better now?" His tone softened.
"Yeah, I was just about to head upstairs." My voice was weak and tired against my will.
"Good" He placed his hand on my head. Let's head back I'll take you to your room."
"Thank you Shota... sorry for bothering you, I know you just got back."
"You are no trouble at all." He said removing his hand from my head. "Now let's hurry upstairs, you need to be rested for tomorrow's practice."
We started walking next to each other in silence with little distance between us, until he dropped me off at my room.
It wasn't long before I had fallen asleep next to Burger.
