Tsuhiko POV

"We'll set up camp here, Tatsuka and Waylon, go find some dry wood for a fire, we don't want to freeze to death. Kirishima and Miramoto, set up the tents." I ordered while kneeling to one knee and placing the radio on the floor I had been lugging around.

I pull the cord and attach it to the radio Mic, talking into it to speak to someone on the others side. "Hello? This is General Tsuhiko Kojima, can anyone hear me?" I said into the radio, watching the others scurry to obey my order.

Off in the distance, I see Waylon and Tatsuka being idiots, dancing around and making jokes. Looks like he's making friends... that's good. The other side of the radio came through, a voice speaking to me.

"We read you! What is your position?" Said the voice, sounded like a radio op.

"Tell Guren that me and my squad are close to the target zone. Another few days and we should be there." I said, hearing the radio op say a quick yes ma'am, then hang up.

I placed the radio down and sigh, placing my hands on my hips. Miramoto was talking to Kirishima, who seemed nervous around her. Well, they should be, but they'll learn soon enough more about each other.

What's taking those other two so long? I can't see them anymore.

Waylon POV

The wood in my arms was heavy, but I managed, stacked all above my head. Tatsuka was having more trouble than me, almost toppling over every so often. I look back at him.

"Sure you don't want me to take that?" I asked.

He stammered. "N-No I got this! I need to build more muscle anyway." He said, a nervous smile on his face.

Just as he says this, he topples over and the wood he's carrying slams into my toes, making me drop my bigger load, and soon were both torpedoed in logs.

"Sorry." He mumbles.

I slowly get up and shake the dirt off. "It's okay, c'mon, let's pick this stuff up. If we're late, General Kojima will be mad." I said, beginning to pick up the logs.

Tatsuka began to help, but stopped and look at me with question. "Hey, your close to the general, right?" He asks.

"Hmm? Yeah... I guess." I said.

"Then why are you calling her General Kojima? Don't you call her first name?" He asked, helping me load more into my arms.

I frowned and looked at the ground. "Yeah. She's like a big sister to me, really." I said.

He smiled and seemed to wonder off in his own world for a second. "I'd love to have a big sis. I only have younger siblings, so I don't know what it's like to be the younger sibling." He said.

"You have siblings?" I asked, poking at my interest.

He nodded with a bit of blush of embarrassment. "Yeah, two twins. Kei and Mei... not much difference in name, huh?" He said.

"Sounds creative." I said.

"It's hard being the older sibling... especially since dad isn't home anymore. Explaining to them that he isn't coming back... well..." he trailed off and was about to speak up again, but I close my eyes and give him a look of respect.

I smiled at him. "You sound like a kind older brother." I said.

He scratched his cheek. "Thanks. I promised them I'd make it home after this operation and go buy them a big cake! They love it when I do that." He said with a look of melancholy.

We both stood, the wood back in our arms and began to walk again as the silence in between us grew, but so did the friendship. I never actually had a friend my own age before, but Tatsuka, over the past few two days has been very nice to me.

"Are you ever scared of them? Vampires?" He asked suddenly, a sad smile on his face.

I think for awhile then smile. "No. I don't think I am." I said simply.

"Y-Your really brave, y'know?" He said. "I can never compare. I even froze up a little when that horseman came outta nowhere."

"It was your first time seeing one, it's normal." I said.

He flinched and looked at me in confusion. "But... wasn't that the first time you fighting one too?" He asked.

"No I...." I trailed off.

Wait. When have I seen a horseman before? I was in the city my whole life after I was found. Was I remembering something? Lilith was able to release a tinge, a very small tinge of muscle memory when I fought it. I felt familiar with its movements too...

Maybe I can get my memories back.
