Waylon POV
I wonder what their talking about over there? They told me to go scouting ahead, so I don't mind if their planning or something. Besides, I need some time alone.
There have been lots of enemies around this area, I'll need to clean up the scout vampires that pass through.
I head into a street, a large one at that. The wide concrete spread to both sides, the shops and cafes that used to be here not molded over and covered in moss and such.
"Pretty quiet." Lilith said, her voice surprising me a bit. She hasn't talked since we left the city.
"Yeah. Could be enemies nearby." I said, scanning around to see anything not normal.
"You want to talk?" She asked, sounding bored.
"Sure, what about?" I asked, quickening my pace and heading into a building. If I can get a larger field of view, then I can make so with a scouting from a high distance over the city.
I entered a rather large building, about ten or eleven floors. I find the stairs, making my way through the offices and cubicles. Paper was scattered around everywhere on the floor, and computer screens smashed.
I push myself up the stairs, while Lilith talks.
"Why did you do that to the vampire back there?" Lilith asked.
"He's a vampire. The enemy." I said.
"So that gives you the right to treat them like that?" She asked.
I frown. "Oh I'm sorry. It's not like they would treat me any nicer. They'd happily drink me dry. They treat us like cattle, so I treat them as worms." I explained, my voice going a bit dark.
Lilith was quiet as I reached the top of the stairs, pushing myself to the very top of the roof. The door slid open with ease and I walked out into the open.
The wind blew harshly, I cover my face as my hair is blown around. I have to make sure I don't lose my hat up here from the wind.
I walk to the edge and look over it, taking out some binoculars and looking around. The streets are empty, no horsemen of John anywhere either.
No sign of vampire activities.
I sigh and put the binoculars back on my belt. I sit over the edge, my legs dangling from the edge. I look over the city with a feeling of emptiness. This place is so barren.
"Do you feel guilty still?" Lilith said, her voice almost a whisper.
I flinch, but quickly correct myself, acting calm. "About what?"
Lilith didn't seem to like this response. "Don't act dumb. You still blame yourself for their deaths. I told you it wasn't your fault." She said.
"It's not that I blame myself for their deaths. I blame myself because..." I trail off as something catches my eyes below. I take my binoculars out again, and look down at the city.
My eye sight passes a street and goes into a roof, and I catch sight of someone. My body freezes and the person I see also has binoculars, and is looking up at my with a dazed expression.
Claire is down on another roof, a few blocks away, her vampire clothes still fitting her well. Her violet hair blew in the wind, and she bit her lip while looking at me. She must have noticed I saw her.
Suddenly, she raised her hand and waved. The expression was so alien, so friendly that I didn't know what to do at first. But I find my hand raising and waving back.
A small smile formed on her face, but it soon disappeared a I see someone else enter from the stairs on her roof. The man from before... the one that killed Tatsuka.
He said something to her, and she slowly and reluctantly nodded. She gave a last glance in my direction, and mouthed something. It was hard to make out, but I keep watching as they disappear.
"Why not go after them? Didn't you want to kill vampires?" Lilith said after awhile.
I frown. "She's... different." I mumbled.
"How so? Though I will tell you she isn't completely vampire." Lilith said.
"What do you mean? Was she a human turned into a vampire?" I asked, wanting an answer. I don't know why I was so interested in this.
"I'm not sure. But she isn't fully vampire. That's all I know." She said, seemingly closing the subject.
I watch the roof she was on as if she might pop back up and say hello again, but she didn't. But she did give me a warning. The words she mouthed before...
"We're heading east."
Looks like I have something to report, but I'm not going to tell them where I got the info. I'll just say I saw them heading that way. But why do I trust her so much? Because she didn't kill me when she had the chance to?
Back in that nest we fell into, it felt natural to talk to her. Something oddly familiar about her also.
I turn and head out to the stairs, running down them as fast as I could. Soon, I'm out on the street, and heading down the streets. I turn to find my team into he same spot I left them, all of them stopped talking seeing me approaching.
"Hey, there's a group of them heading east." I said when I stopped in front of them, letting out a couple of deep breaths.
None of them said anything, so I tilt my head. "What's up?"
Yu scratched his head. "We think your nuts." He said bluntly.
The others look at him like he's crazy for saying it so suddenly. So they talked about me while I was gone... I look at the ground, my hair overcharging my face.
Shinoa smiled nervously. "H-He didn't really mean that-"
"It's okay it you think that." I said, looking up with a straight face. "Just don't go crying to me when your naivety gets the better of you."
Steaming, I walk away. I don't know why, but I felt really happy for once after having a long distance moment with Claire, but when I came back they instantly ruined it.
Yoichi ran after me and put a hand on my shoulder. "Hey, he didn't mean it literally. We just... you know..." he trailed off.
"Yoichi." I said, getting his attention.
"Yeah?"
I turn and look him in the eyes. "Don't force yourself to try and being my friend. It sickens me."
Yoichi was left with wide eyes as I left and walked ahead of the group. If they think thay, let them think. They don't know anything about me, what I've been through. I don't know anything about them either, so I want to keep it that way.
If I get attached I'll just be sad if they die.
(More tense atmosphere with the squad. And a meeting on roofs that seemed sown together by fate. Still thinkj g over who he should be shipped with though. Nonetheless I hope you enjoyed and have a wonderful day!) - MnMs171
