Claire POV
After falling asleep, I dreamed of when I was younger. Though I am part vampire, I grow like a human, so there wasn't any hiding what I was from others my age.
People would purposefully play pranks on me, well, that's what they called it, "pranks". In my eyes, and what it actually was, was straight out bullying.
I was a weak girl when I was young, fragile and getting sick. My immune system was a mess since of my genetic make-up. That's not a problem nowadays, but back then it was painful to live through a day.
My mother was the vampire in the relationship. She was a noble, that happened to decide to mate with one of the male humans in her mansion in the vampire city. Slaves those days were hard to come by with vampires being a secret and all. She was really into what made humans tick, treating them like toys. So much that she'd even have a child to experiment with.
As a vampire you can just do things like that, I guess. Getting pregnant isn't a problem for them because they can attain all of their beauty even after birth. How lucky.
Ever since I was very young I was always stuck in the mansion, all the outside world was for me was the streets and city I could see out of my window. I thought my world was so large then.
When I turned ten, I remember my mother leaving one night. I swear that might I felt the world rumble a bit and screams from miles away.
This was the day the world went to despair.
After that, I saw what the entrance looked like, thousands of children dressed in white clothing being led through the streets. They were treated like cattle. When I asked my mother about them she didn't seem angry or happy. She was a blank slate, like what she had seen up top had changed her somehow.
But she had a bunch of new research subjects. All young children. The image in this dream that came clearly this night was the night I met a very interesting boy.
All the slaves in my house were doing regular work, and we're scared of me. But there was always a room that my mother blocked off, to the basement. I was curious and wanted to see badly, I wanted to know more about my mother and her work.
So I snuck down there. With all the books I've read, it's no wonder a book about lock picking would come in handy. I practiced on the bathroom door, until it was second nature. When it finally came to the night I picked the basement door, it was so easy I was a bit disappointed.
I tip toed down the concrete stairs, until I was on flat ground.
In the basement was a room. A bed, working bathroom, a dresser, and even other commodities. Other from that, there was a room connected to this one, a lab of sorts. I supposed that's where mother worked.
Trying to sneak through, I froze when I made eye contact with someone.
There was a boy in white clothes huddled in the corner, his hair was grown out, covering his back and some of his face. Through his bangs though, I could see two shining blue eyes, like sapphires. I was so enchanted I couldn't move, until he spoke.
"Who are you?" He asked, his voice was hollow, sounding as if it were not even coming from him, but all around me.
This was the first time another person my age actually didn't pick on me the first time I had met them, and other humans avoid me. But he just looks at me with hollow eyes.
"Claire. Who are you?" I asked, smiling like the naive child I was.
The boy looked down at his feet, and frowned. "She said my name didn't matter anymore." He mumbled.
