Start of the Journey (Part 1 Finale)

Claire POV

I put down another bag and sighed deeply. Stretching out as I felt a tap on my shoulder, I glance over my shoulder to find a man from the village.

Settling near a village and protecting them in exchange for a house isn't so bad. But it seems that the others have made up their mind.

Though it is a dangerous plan.

"Got everything for the journey? Where are your pals?" The man asked, looking around to see if they'd come out.

I give him a shrug. "Their all gathering what they can right now. Maybe talking about our plan again. " I explained.

The man smiled and nodded, and as he began to walk back to the village, he stopped and didn't look back, but he spoke. "Y'know... we weren't too sure to let you all in at first. Mostly because of you having vampires in your group." He said.

"I know." I said.

He glanced back, a small smile on his face. "But I'm glad we did. You kids be careful out there." He said, finally walking away towards the village.

I felt myself smile from the recognition. It was nice to be seen differently for once by humans. These people in the village didn't fear me or Mika, they relied on us.

"Seems like you left an impression." Said someone behind me. I turn to find Waylon, putting down his bags with his only arm. A part of me wanted to ask him if he wanted help, by I held myself back. I can't make him feel pitied.

Though it's hard not to pity him.

He caught my look, and smiled. "If you want to help you can. If you hold back it just makes it awkward." He said suddenly.

"R-Really? Then, can I?" I asked, and after seeing him nod, I help him out the bags that were on his back in the back of the truck. The villagers didn't need it, so they let us take it.

"How much gas do we have?" I asked, looking up at the drivers seat. Waylon shrugged and looked over at the house we had stayed at.

"Maybe around enough to get us where were going. But the way back will be a trek." He said. It seems moments like these that I find that I'm staring at him.

He looks so much like that boy from back then. The small and fragile prince I knew back then. Waylon has told me of his amnesia, so does that mean there's a chance it's him?

I shake my head and sigh, maybe I should just let it go for now. I cross my arms and follow Waylon's gaze up at the house. Out in the front Yu and Mika are both lugging things down the hill towards us.

The way they are, it's almost like their brothers. Well, I suppose they are brothers. They see us and wave, Mika gives me a small nod.

"You two ready?" Yu asked as he set his things in the truck, looking over at me and Waylon. Mika continued to grab luggage and put it in as Yu talked with us.

"I am. Waylon just finished with his luggage as well." I said, at this Yu nodded and cupped his mouth, yelling up at the house. "Get your butts in gear!"

I hear a yell back, but not quite what it was, probably Kimizuki swearing back at him. Having been with them for awhile now, I knew that Waylon's friends were a bit weird, but in a good way.

Mika seemed to agree with me, saying that all the humans with them were naive. But it was a nice touch to meet all of these people rather than the usual vampire life norm.

Soon we see Shinoa, Yoichi, and Kimizuki come out of the house, all carrying their bags and such. As they start to unload, Mitsuba comes out also and lags behind.

Waylon notices the reason she's lagging behind is the number of luggage she has. He sighs and walked up the hill, grabbed a bag or two from her without a word then continuing while ignoring her saying she could get it by herself.

But after he turned his back, I saw a slight smile go to her face. I can see that she likes him. While this shouldn't bother me, it really does. I shift around uncomfortably as I see this unfold and just watch their comedy act. They acted like a divorced couple.

Although Waylon seems to just not act like that with just her, but he helps everyone with their bags. Being a good person is hardwired into him I think.

Thinking this makes the jealousy wash away and I climb on top of the back of the truck, while the others gather around. Kimizuki pulls out a map, and points to a certain location.

"You all know the plan, right?" Kimizuki asked, looking at each of our faces.

Yu crossed his arms and sighed. "I still think we should go after Guren first." He said, earning him a kick in the knee from Shinoa.

"We already agreed. If we're going to help him, then we must get more help." Shinoa scolded him, then pointed back to the spot on the map with determination.

"Our first part of the plan is to head to the vampire city. There we can make a plan to break out Krul Tepes, the recent captured queen." Shinoa explained, then pointed at Mika and me.

"These two know the outlay of the city, and just in case, so does Yu. But remember, that city is enemy territory, their home." She said. "Were sticking our hand in the middle of the hive."

Yoichi let's out a small and nervous smile. "Lets hope we don't wake up the whole colony, yeah?"

"If we do then it'll be a bust. But we'll take our time, and we will succeed." Waylon said, making all of us put on serious, yet brave faces.

"This is the first step. Get ready, because this is only the beginning. Hell awaits us, the way we're going." He continued, looking at every one of us in the eyes. "So I'm gonna ask on last time..."

He stood on top of the truck, in front of us all. Standing up there, with the wind from the ocean pushing against him, he looked like a prince addressing his people. I felt myself mesmerized for a moment.

"Are you ready?" He asked.

We all look at one another, in which I lastly smile and look up at him, speaking with courage.

"You bet."
