*Emmie's POV*

The loud crack of thunder echoed outside as I laid in my bedroom, covering my ears. I had always hated thunderstorms ever since I was really little, and nothing had changed. I quickly hid my head under the blankets after seeing a large flash of lightning followed by more terrifying thunder.

I couldn't take it anymore, I tossed the sheets and blankets off of me and jumped out of bed, quickly opening the door. Calmed by the hallways overhead lights, I made my way to Lauren's bedroom.

It used to be her and dad's room.

My mind swept away that thought as I entered the room. "Mom?" I called out, finding that she wasn't in the room. I went and sat on the bed, soon noticing Lauren's laptop was across from me. Having nothing better to do while I waited for Lauren, I decided to see if the press had figured out about the fight between her and dad yet.

As soon as I opened up the laptop, I regretted it. Lauren had two tabs open.

My mouth dropped open in sadness and shock before I slowly closed the laptop. I didn't even know I was crying until I felt tears dripping from my cheeks.

Lauren and dad had fights before but they always made up, and that's what I thought would happen again. I wasn't even mad at my dad anymore and hadn't been for a while, I missed him. He was drunk, it wasn't like he wanted to hurt me.

I just couldn't believe it.

*Lauren's POV*

"Em?" I asked as I exited the bathroom. She sat on my bed, crying. "You okay?"

"How could you?" She cried, looking up at me with sad, hurt eyes. I gave her a confused look, making her continue. "You're going to get a divorce!"

"Em, I-"

She quickly cut me off to continue. "No! Stop! I don't want to hear it!" Her outburst had me shocked, so I didn't say a word. "I saw your laptop. You are gonna divorce him and take me away from my dad!"

Finally, I gathered the courage to speak, but as soon as I opened my mouth, I couldn't find the right words.

"I thought you love him! I thought you never wanted to be away from him! I thought we were a family!"

"We are a family, Emmie," I replied.

"No, a family doesn't hate each other. A family doesn't kick someone out because of a stupid fight." She was trying so hard to keep her tears in, but it wasn't working very well. "Can't you just say you're sorry and forgive him?"

"Emmie, this isn't like one of your fights on the playground at school. It's way more complicated," I explained, sniffling a bit at the thought of Steven.

"He did nothing to you," she began again. "He came home, drunk as hell, pinned me against the wall and hit me. I still forgave him. He was drunk, he had no clue what he was doing. I know that wasn't the real him, so I'm forgiving him. If I can, why can't you?"

"He went to the bar and just left us here, without even saying a word," I fought back.

It didn't take more than a second for her to think of a reply. "I don't blame him for going! We were screaming and fighting and being assholes to him." Emmie paused for a moment, looking at me in the eye. "So stop pretending that he hurt you 'cause he didn't. I know you still love him, I know you miss him. So stop denying it."

With that, she got up off the bed and headed for the door. "Emerson, wait!" I called out, only to be ignored by her.

"Emmie?" I asked as I knocked on her door the next morning. I had thought about everything that she had said and needed to talk to her. "Emmie?" After a few seconds of waiting, I shifted Caiden onto my hip and opened up the door to find nobody there. Her phone and everything was still in the room but Emmie was nowhere to be found.

I went about the house frantically looking for Emmie before I had come to a conclusion. Caiden fussed at me, wanting down so I put him on the ground to play with Cleo as I pulled out my phone.

Hesitantly, I went to my contacts and clicked on Steven's number.

"Lauren?" His voice said, making me freeze up. "Lauren, what is it?"

"Emmie's missing," I choked out.

"Could anything happening at home cause your daughter to run away?" The policeman asked.

I glanced around, making sure Steven wasn't around before saying, "I was thinking about divorcing my husband, and she found out."

"Alright ma'am, that's all I need for now," the policeman informed me. "You just stay here and take care do the rest of your children, and my team and I will locate your daughter."

"Thank you."

The twins were taking their afternoon nap, so I walked upstairs to the bedroom, quickly falling on the bed. I broke down into tears and cried into a pillow before hearing a knock on the door.

I sat up and wiped my eyes before calling out, "Come in."

"Lauren, can I talk to you for a minute?" Steven asked, peeking his head in. I simply shrugged in response, causing him to slowly come in the room and sit on the bed. "What happened?"

I hesitated before answering him. "We got into a fight last night. It was pretty bad."

"What about?"

I stopped breathing for a moment at his question. "I really don't want to talk about it." Even though I didn't say it, I sensed he knew it was about him. "It's all my fault. She's gone because of me." That's when I broke down sobbing.

He quickly grabbed my shoulders. "Stop it, stop it. It's not your fault at all. I don't care if you hate me, you need a hug." Which that, he wrapped his arms around me, myself hugging back. I breathed in his familiar scent as I cried.

"Now listen to me," Steven said. "Lauren Cohan, you-"

I quickly cut him off. "No....I'm a Yeun." Then, I immediately wrapped my arms around his neck and brought his lips down onto mine.
