Kakashi was drowning in paperwork, which meant Mayumi was free to spend her day however she pleased. And that definitely meant she was going to get into trouble.
Naruto and Hikaru had the day off too, and after an hour of wandering aimlessly through Konoha, they collectively decided that having fun (causing chaos) was the best way to spend their time.
"Alright, Mayumi," Naruto said, stretching his arms behind his head. "How about we put those crazy powers of yours to good use?"
"Oh?" Mayumi grinned. "What are we thinking? Pranks? Challenges? Lifting you up and tossing you into the Hokage's office?"
Naruto lit up. "Wait, that last one actually sounds fun—"
Hikaru crossed his arms. "Or you could throw him out of the village. I think that'd be fun too."
"Hikaru, please," Naruto scoffed. "You love me."*
"That's definitely not true."
Mayumi snorted. "Alright, enough bickering. Let's start small. Naruto, you're up."
"Up?" Naruto blinked, then immediately yelped as Mayumi lifted him several feet into the air with her telekinesis. "Whoa, whoa! This is awesome! Can you make me fly?!"
"Technically?" Mayumi mused, spinning him slowly in the air like he was some kind of floating rotisserie chicken. "But I could also just... drop you."*
"Mayumi—!"*
Hikaru smirked. "Hey, let's see how high he can go before he freaks out."
"NO, LET'S NOT!"*
Naturally, they ignored him.
⸻
After a while, Naruto got way too comfortable being levitated.
"This is actually kinda fun," he admitted, reclining in the air as if he were lounging in an invisible hammock. "Hey, Mayumi, can you float me around the village? Let's mess with people."*
"Ohhh, I like the way you think," Mayumi grinned. "What if I just... placed you somewhere unexpected?"
"Like where?"
A devious smirk spread across her face.
One minute, Naruto was enjoying his personal floating experience. The next, he was hovering outside the open window of a random house.
He blinked. "Uh, Mayumi?"
Then he turned his head.
Inside, a girl was very much in the middle of her bath.
For a second, there was complete silence.
Then—
"PERVEEEEERT!!!!"
"MAYUMI, YOU ABSOLUTE MENACE!" Naruto screamed as Mayumi dropped him mid-air in her fit of laughter.
A shampoo bottle flew out of the window, hitting Naruto straight in the head as he tumbled to the ground.
Hikaru was doubled over, wheezing. "I... I can't breathe..."
"That was not funny!!" Naruto shouted, rubbing his head. "I ALMOST DIED!"*
"From what?" Mayumi cackled. "Embarrassment?"
"YES!"*
"You're fine, stop whining," Hikaru said, wiping away tears of laughter. "Honestly, you're the only person I know who can get accidentally peeped and still be the victim."
Naruto groaned. "You guys are the worst."*
⸻
After barely escaping the wrath of the bathhouse girl, they decided to get ice cream. Naturally, things did not go smoothly.
"What flavor do you want?" Mayumi asked.
"Mmm... chocolate!"* Naruto grinned.
Mayumi held out her hand, using her telekinesis to float the ice cream cone toward him—until Hikaru snatched it out of the air and took a huge bite.
"HEY!"* Naruto yelled. "What was that for?!"
"You should've ordered faster," Hikaru said coolly. "I had time to think about it, and I decided I wanted chocolate."*
Naruto turned to Mayumi. "Back me up here!"*
"You snooze, you lose," she shrugged, licking her own cone. "Though, to be fair, he is stealing."*
"Fine," Hikaru said, grabbing Mayumi's ice cream too. "Now it's equal stealing."*
"HEY!"* Mayumi gasped. "I made that ice cream float! That was my creation!"*
"Wow, what a tragic loss," Hikaru said flatly, biting into it.
Mayumi narrowed her eyes. "...You just made an enemy for life."*
⸻
By the time they were done terrorizing the village, the three of them were lounging on a bench at the park, completely satisfied with their day of absolute nonsense.
"Man, that was a great day," Naruto sighed happily.
"Yeah," Hikaru agreed. "It's been a while since I've seen you guys cause this much trouble."*
Mayumi leaned back, stretching. "And the best part? No consequences."*
A voice cleared from behind them.
"Oh? No consequences, huh?"
They all froze.
Slowly, they turned around to see Kakashi standing there, arms crossed, giving them the look.
"Uh... hey, Kakashi," Mayumi said, forcing a smile. "How was work?"
"Exhausting," he said, rubbing his temple. "Mostly because I've spent the entire day listening to complaints about you three."
Hikaru and Naruto glanced at each other.
"Complaints?" Mayumi echoed, putting a hand to her chest. "Us? Complaints? That doesn't sound right."
"Oh?" Kakashi pulled out a long list and started reading. "'A woman reported a blonde idiot levitating outside her bathroom window—'"
Naruto groaned. "Oh, come on!"*
"'An elderly vendor says a purple-haired guy stole two ice creams—'"
"That's debatable," Hikaru muttered.
"'A shopkeeper claims he was almost hit by a flying kunai after overhearing a fight about 'justice for ice cream'—'"
"That one is not my fault," Mayumi interjected. "Hikaru deserved that."*
"I did not," Hikaru shot back.
Kakashi sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. "What am I supposed to do with you three?"
"Ignore everything we did and pretend this conversation never happened?" Mayumi offered sweetly.
Kakashi gave her a look.
"Fine," she sighed. "We'll be good. Probably."
"That's not reassuring."*
"It's the best you're gonna get."*
Kakashi shook his head. "Unbelievable."*
Naruto grinned. "So, do you wanna join in next time?"
"Absolutely not."*
"Lame," Hikaru muttered.
Kakashi sighed again. "I'm too old for this."*
Mayumi smirked. "Ohhh, right, because you're 29 now, huh?"
Kakashi groaned. "I walked right into that one, didn't I?"
"Yep," they all said in unison.
