Kakashi had been Hokage. He had led teams, fought in wars, handled negotiations, and kept Konoha from crumbling into chaos.
Yet, somehow... somehow... nothing had prepared him for this.
"So," he began cautiously, watching Mayumi eat across from him, "should we actually plan the wedding?"
Mayumi, mid-bite of her dango, blinked. "Huh. I guess."
Kakashi sighed. "That's not really an answer."
Mayumi chewed thoughtfully. "I mean... yeah, sure, why not?"
He stared at her. "You do realize we've been engaged for years, right?"
She nodded. "Yep."
Silence.
Kakashi rubbed his temples. "We should probably make a list."
That was his first mistake.

Sitting at the table in their home, Kakashi had dutifully prepared a piece of paper and a pen.
"Alright," he said, prepared for a rational discussion. "We need to decide on a venue, the guest list, the date, and—"
Mayumi promptly grabbed the paper and threw it across the room.
Kakashi blinked. "Right. Okay."
Mayumi stretched lazily. "Lists are boring. Let's just feel it out."
"That's exactly why we haven't planned anything in years."
She waved a hand dismissively. "I don't see the problem."
Kakashi took a slow breath. "Mayumi. We're getting married. That requires planning."
"I planned," she argued.
"...Saying 'we should feel it out' is not planning."
She grinned. "It is if you believe in the power of spontaneity."
Kakashi muttered something under his breath. "At this rate, we'll be married when we're eighty."
Mayumi gasped dramatically. "Perfect! Then I won't have to invite Hikaru!"
He deadpanned. "Hikaru is going to crash the wedding no matter what."
Mayumi groaned. "You're probably right."
"...So can we actually plan this?"
Mayumi considered this seriously for a moment.
Then she stood up, stretched, and kissed his cheek. "I'll think about it."
And just like that, she walked away.
Kakashi put his head down on the table.
He was never getting married.
