The council room was stuffy, filled with stern-looking elders and officials, all glaring at Hikaru and Mayumi as if they had just burned the Hokage Monument to the ground. Hikaru, barely holding himself together, sat slumped in his chair, sunglasses covering his bloodshot eyes. He was radiating regret. Mayumi, on the other hand, sat perfectly upright, arms crossed, looking completely unbothered.
One of the elders cleared his throat. "Mayumi. Hikaru. Do you understand why you're here?"
Mayumi yawned. "Because you insisted?"
Hikaru barely lifted his head. "Please... talk quieter."
Another elder narrowed his eyes. "This mission was meant for intelligence gathering. Instead, you both—" he gestured at the report in front of him, "—brutalized the targets, rendered them unconscious, and then publicly dragged them through the village."
Mayumi rolled her eyes. "First of all, they started it."
"The mission was not a combat mission!"
Mayumi huffed. "Yeah, well, they hurt my best friend, so excuse me for handling it efficiently."
Hikaru groaned, holding his head. "Mayumi, please."
Another elder glared at them. "And then, instead of reporting in after the mission, you two went drinking."
Hikaru flinched at the word drinking. Mayumi, however, just shrugged. "What was left to report? We brought them in, they woke up in custody, and we got all the information we needed. They were so terrified, they practically confessed to crimes we weren't even asking about."
"That's not how protocol works!"
Mayumi stood up, stretching. "Okay, well, you weren't there, and honestly, I don't think I did anything wrong. If this is just a long-winded scolding, I'm leaving." She turned on her heel and walked straight out.
Hikaru lifted his sunglasses slightly. "Wait, does that mean I can le—"
"No," the elders said in unison.
"Ugh." He dropped his head back on the desk.

Mayumi got home first, feeling absolutely no guilt whatsoever. She spent the day lazing around, taking a bath, reading a book, and eventually curling up in bed. By the time Kakashi came home late that night, she was already buried under the blankets.

Kakashis POV
The Hokage office had been exhausting that day. After the council meeting and dealing with the fallout of Mayumi's actions, Kakashi was ready to go home and forget about the world for a while. As he stepped inside, the soft glow of candlelight flickered in the living room. The scent of something floral lingered in the air—Mayumi's doing, no doubt.
He found her already in bed, sitting up against the headboard, wearing one of his shirts—his favorite shirt, the one he had been looking for that morning. The sleeves hung past her hands, and the fabric was loose over her frame, barely covering her thighs.
"You're late," she murmured, voice low, eyes half-lidded as she watched him enter the room.
He hummed in response, stripping off his Hokage cloak and tossing it onto the chair. "Work," he said simply, walking toward the bed. "Had to smooth things over after your little mission debrief."
Mayumi smirked. "I stand by my choices."
"I know you do." He sat on the edge of the bed, reaching out to tuck a strand of hair behind her ear. His fingertips lingered on her jaw before sliding down her neck. She shivered under his touch. "I still think you should have reported in before dragging Hikaru to the bar."
"He's fine," she murmured. "And you weren't mad last night."
Kakashi exhaled through his nose, a small chuckle leaving his lips. "You distracted me before I had the chance."
Mayumi tilted her head, her fingers finding the edge of his mask. "And I plan to do it again."
She pulled it down slowly, revealing the sharp lines of his face, the soft curve of his lips, and the heat in his dark eyes as he gazed at her. She loved that look—the way it was reserved for her, the way it made her stomach twist deliciously.
Kakashi leaned in, capturing her lips in a slow, deep kiss. His hand slid under the hem of his shirt she was wearing, fingers ghosting over bare skin, making her sigh into his mouth. His grip tightened as he pulled her onto his lap, settling her against him.
"You wore this on purpose, didn't you?" he murmured against her lips, his fingers slipping under the fabric, tracing her spine.
She grinned. "Maybe."
Kakashi shook his head with a small, amused smirk before flipping them over, pressing her into the mattress. His lips trailed down her jaw, his hands mapping the curves of her body like he was committing them to memory all over again.
Kakashi's hands skimmed over Mayumi's thighs, his touch slow, deliberate—like he had all the time in the world. He kissed the corner of her mouth, then her jaw, then the sensitive spot just below her ear that always made her squirm. She let out a soft sigh, tilting her head to give him more access, her fingers threading through his silver hair.
"You're enjoying this," she murmured, her breath hitching as he nipped at her skin.
"Of course I am," Kakashi said against her neck, his voice low, teasing. "You're beautiful when you're impatient."
Mayumi huffed, trying to push him over, but he was faster. With a smirk, he pinned her wrists above her head with one hand. "Not this time," he whispered.
Her heart pounded in anticipation. He was taking his time, dragging his fingertips along her skin, tracing patterns over her stomach, her sides, teasing but never giving her exactly what she wanted.
"Kakashi," she groaned, attempting to free her wrists, but he tightened his grip just enough to keep her in place.
He hummed. "Patience."
She arched against him, brushing her lips over his, teasing right back. "I don't do patience."
Kakashi chuckled, his free hand slipping lower, his touch making her tremble. "Then I guess I'll just have to teach you."
And teach her, he did—slowly, thoroughly, savoring every gasp and sigh that left her lips as the night stretched on.
By the time they were tangled together in the sheets, the candles burned low, and the world outside didn't exist. Mayumi lay curled against him, her fingers lazily tracing patterns over his bare chest. Kakashi pressed a kiss to the top of her head, his arm wrapped securely around her waist.
"You're ridiculous," she muttered sleepily.
He smirked, his voice laced with amusement. "You love it."
She yawned, nuzzling closer. "Yeah, yeah. Happy now?"
Kakashi pulled her even closer, his lips brushing her forehead. "Very."
Mayumi smiled against his skin. "Good. Because I'm expecting breakfast in bed after this."
Kakashi laughed softly, his hand running up and down her spine. "We'll see."
But they both knew he'd do it. Because he'd do anything for her.
