~NOTES~
I'm sorry in advance, but not really. I've been thinking a lot recently about why people cheat on their partners. Of course, people do it out of selfishness, greed, jealousy etc. But there are also the people who do it because they fall for someone who gives them what their current partner can't. I will always say that cheating isn't the answer, but I can see how people can almost accidentally do it when they find someone they believed they weren't worthy of, and so they settled for less until it's brought to their attention they deserve so much more. Happy anniversary Mizabeth!Drinks at mine? My new cocktail shaker arrived. 😉
As she read the message that just buzzed on her phone, she smiled immediately. Liz and Michael had become close friends since leaving work on Victorious together and they'd been spending more time in each other's company now that Liz's boyfriend James was away on business for months at a time. She chewed her lip a little, staring at the phone screen before typing out a response.
Only if I can wear my PJs.
Michael's response was almost immediate.
Wear your finest onesie and fuzzy socks. Bonus points if it's Disney themed.
She grinned and shut her phone off, heading upstairs to dig out the Bambi themed onesie and Disney princess fluffy socks. They were hauled at the back of her closet, buried behind the silk and lace pyjamas she now wore for James after he told her the comfy onesies with funny ears on the hoods weren't 'sexy enough' for their movie nights. She laid it out on her bed to change for the evening and set a reminder on her phone.
The time soon ticked by and Liz was checking through her bag for everything, making sure it was all in order for later on. She grabbed the packet of Sour Patch Kids from the stash in the cupboard and left them on the top of her bag, just above her phone charger and purse. Her sneakers were by the front door and as she grabbed them from the floor where she'd kicked them off earlier, the sound of keys in the lock made her jump.
"Hello...?" She called out, backing up slightly because only two people had the key to her place; James and her mom, both of which were in a different city.
"Hey." James said as he walked through the door, suitcase behind him.
"Hey! You're back!" Liz grinned excitedly, grabbing his shoulders to help her as she jumped up at him, ready to go in for a kiss.
"Yeah, hi. It was a long drive so can I go freshen up before you start hugging me and all that." James said, unraveling her arms from his body and pulling back before she could kiss him.
"Yeah, sure." Liz nodded, looking away slightly embarrassed at her over the top reaction.
"I'll be quick." James said and walked past her, up the stairs to her bathroom and closed the door behind him.
Forty minutes passed.
The embarrassment now forgotten and replaced with more excitement, Liz was darting around the kitchen as she prepared snacks ready for a surprise movie night. James had been away for a little over two months so she wanted everything to be special since he had made the effort to come home earlier than planned. She touched up her lipstick and unbuttoned her shirt slightly, hoping to keep James' attention for the night.
"Alright, you can do your excited puppy thing now." James said bluntly as he walked into the kitchen, freshly showered and changed into comfy shorts and a plain T-shirt.
"Yay! I missed you so much, James! Like, so much. I don't know how you manage to be so strong for all that time." Liz rambled, tangling herself in his arms and leaning up for a kiss, which he returned this time.
