Author's POV

The next morning, the makeup room was quieter than usual. Hairdryers hummed, brushes swept across palettes, but Hayoung sat still in the chair, eyes fixed on the mirror without really looking at her reflection.
Her phone lay face down on the counter. She hadn't turned it on since last night.

The stylist, sensing her mood, didn't make small talk.

Rohan's Entrance

From across the studio, Rohan spotted her immediately. Even in a room full of models and assistants, she stood out — not for her usual glow, but for the heaviness in her posture.
He approached with a casual pace, but his eyes were sharp, scanning her face as if reading a script.

"Morning," he greeted, his voice smooth. "You look..." He tilted his head slightly. "...tired. Rough night?"

Hayoung forced a small smile. "Just didn't sleep well."

Rohan pulled up a stool and sat beside her, ignoring the subtle surprise from the makeup artist. "Didn't sleep... or couldn't sleep?"

She hesitated, glancing at him in the mirror. "...Both, I guess."

The First Pull
He leaned in slightly, lowering his voice. "What happened?"
"It's nothing," she said quickly, eyes dropping.

Rohan didn't press right away. Instead, he waited — letting the silence hang just long enough to make her uncomfortable. Then, softly: "You know you can tell me if something's bothering you. I've seen you handle twelve-hour shoots without flinching. But today, you look... like you're carrying something heavier than that."

Hayoung's chest tightened. She told herself she shouldn't — but the words slipped out anyway. "I... had a fight with Jungkook."

Rohan's brows drew together in what looked like genuine concern. "A fight? That's not like you two."

"It just... happened," she said, her voice small. "We haven't seen each other much lately, and I guess he got frustrated. I was tired, he was angry, and..." She trailed off, shaking her head. "It got bad."

The Hook
Rohan nodded slowly, as though piecing together a puzzle. "So... he's upset because you're working?"
"That's not exactly—"

"But isn't that what it comes down to?" Rohan cut in gently, his tone more sympathetic than accusatory. "You're chasing your dreams, working harder than ever... and instead of supporting you, he's making you feel guilty for it."

Hayoung's lips parted slightly. "That's not—he supports me—"

"Does he?" Rohan's voice was quiet, steady. "Because from where I'm standing, it sounds like he's asking you to choose between your career and him. And I know you, Hayoung — you'd give everything for the people you love. But would he do the same for you?"

The question lingered in the air, heavier than she wanted to admit.

Subtle Poison
Rohan didn't push harder yet. Instead, he shifted his tone. "And... Nayoung. Has she said anything about this?"
Hayoung blinked. "No, she doesn't know."

He gave a small, knowing smile. "Of course. Because if she did, I'm sure she'd be on his side."

Hayoung frowned. "Why would you think that?"

"Well..." Rohan's shoulders lifted in a light shrug. "It's no secret Nayoung and I don't exactly see eye to eye. But let's be honest — she's close to Jungkook. And Taehyung. They're a tight little circle. And you... you've always been the one they try to 'protect,' haven't you?"

The way he said protect made it sound like a trap rather than care.

"I'm not saying they're bad people," he continued, "but sometimes... friends think they know what's best for you, even when it's not what you want. And from what I've seen, Nayoung has a very strong opinion about me. If she thinks your work is 'too much,' she'll blame me. She'll blame the very thing that's helping you grow."

Hayoung opened her mouth to argue, but no words came.

Turning the Knife
"And Taehyung?" Rohan added casually. "He's Jungkook's closest friend. You think he's going to tell Jungkook to be patient? Or do you think he's telling him you're slipping away?"
Hayoung's hands tightened in her lap. "You don't know that."

"No," Rohan admitted, "but I know how people are when they're loyal to each other. And I know you've been working too hard to let anyone make you feel guilty for it."

He leaned forward slightly, meeting her eyes in the mirror. "You've fought your way into this industry, Hayoung. Do you really think anyone else will fight for your dreams as hard as you will? Even the people closest to you... sometimes they don't understand the cost. But I do. I've seen it. I've lived it."

Her throat felt tight.

False Comfort
Rohan's voice softened even more. "You've given so much to them — your time, your attention, your heart. But right now... maybe it's time to give something to yourself."

He placed a hand lightly on the back of her chair — not touching her, just resting there like a shield. "Let me handle the noise. You focus on your work, on you. If they're worth keeping in your life, they'll understand. And if they're not..." He gave the faintest shrug. "...then maybe they were never really on your side."

Hayoung felt her chest ache — part from the fight, part from the idea that maybe, just maybe, he was right.

Hayoung's POV

I wanted to believe he was wrong. I wanted to believe Jungkook and Nayoung would never make me choose, would never side against me. But last night's argument was still raw in my chest.
And the truth was... I was tired. Tired of feeling like I had to justify why I was working so much. Tired of feeling like every missed call was a mistake I had to apologize for.

Rohan's words slid into that exhaustion like they belonged there.

Author's POV

By the time the stylist was finished, Hayoung looked ready for the camera — but her mind was somewhere else.
Rohan, on the other hand, looked satisfied. He didn't need her to agree with him outright. He only needed her to walk into the rest of her day with a seed of doubt growing quietly in her mind.

And he'd planted three:
One for Jungkook.
One for Nayoung.
One for Taehyung.

The rest, he knew, would take care of itself.
