Hitman's POV
I lean against the cold wall opposite the office building, cap pulled low, jacket zipped up despite the heat. My eyes scan the entrance, steady, unblinking. One hand rests inside my jacket where the metal waits.
I pull the photograph from my pocket, tilting it under the faint light. That face. Sharp eyes, confident lips. I've seen it so many times in the past hour that it's burned into my brain. Today, she'll fall.
A car pulls up to the curb. I straighten. The engine cuts, and a woman steps out—heels clicking against the pavement. I compare the face to the photo. Same posture. Same aura. Yes. Target confirmed.
I slide the photo back into my jacket and tighten my grip around the gun. Slow breath in. Slow breath out. My heartbeat doesn't change. It never does. A job is a job.
Nayoung's POV
Finally. I pull into my usual parking spot, glancing at the time on the dashboard. Just in time. The meeting with the foreign clients will be tough, but I've handled tougher.
I reach into my bag, checking files, phone, laptop. Everything's here. I smooth down my blazer, trying to clear my head. Focus. This is work. The rest—whatever tension has been in the air lately—I can think about later.
I lock the car and start toward the building entrance, my heels clicking against the concrete. Just another workday. Just—
Hayoung's POV
There! My eyes lock onto the shadow just as I round the corner. A man, tall, cap pulled low, hand inside his jacket. Something about him screams danger. My stomach drops.
I freeze for half a heartbeat, then I see what he's holding. A glint of metal. A gun.
"No..." My breath tears out of me. My eyes dart—Nayoung. Just a few steps ahead, walking calmly, unaware.
Panic slams through me like lightning. My throat tightens, but I scream anyway, voice breaking. "NAYOUNG!!"
My legs move before my brain catches up. I run, every muscle burning, heart racing.
Taehyung's POV
We skid to a stop at the edge of the lot. My eyes search wildly—and then I see her. Nayoung. She's right there.
"NAAYYOUNG!!!" My scream shreds my throat raw. I can't breathe. My chest tightens until I feel like I'll collapse. My legs push forward, but every step feels too slow.
Jungkook's beside me, shouting too, but all I see is her.
And then—him. The shadow in the corner. A man with his arm raised, gun glinting under the light.
"No... no, no, no!" My vision blurs with tears. My whole body feels like it's tearing apart. I run, legs shaking, lungs burning, but it feels like I'm moving through quicksand.
Hitman's POV
The target walks closer. Heels. Unaware. Easy.
I raise the gun, the weight familiar in my hand. Finger on the trigger. My breath stays steady, calm.
The photo and the face line up. Perfect. It's her.
Hayoung's POV
I see his finger squeeze the trigger. Time slows.
"No!!" I throw myself forward, legs screaming, arms outstretched. I slam into Nayoung just as the gun fires.
The crack splits the air, loud, merciless.
Nayoung's POV
Something slams into me—Hayoung's body. My world spins, the pavement rushing up. My head smashes against something hard, pain exploding at my temple. I hear the whizz of a bullet—so close—tearing past my arm, searing my skin.
I cry out, my body collapsing. My vision swims, hot liquid dripping down my forehead.
Taehyung's POV
I see her fall. I see the blood.
Everything inside me shatters. My knees nearly buckle, but I force them forward, sprinting faster than I thought possible.
"NAYOUNG!!" My scream rips the night. I crash beside her, my hands grabbing her, holding her head, pressing against the wound. Blood seeps between my fingers. "No, no, no, no..." My voice breaks, tears blinding me.
Her eyes flutter, unfocused. She's breathing, but too weak. My chest splits open. "Stay with me, please, please..." My tears fall onto her face. I'm shaking so violently I can barely keep my hands still.
Jungkook's POV
The shot still rings in my ears, but my eyes snap to the shadow moving. The man's already bolting, heading for a dark car at the corner. Rage explodes through me like fire.
"Coward!!" I roar, my legs pounding the pavement. I chase him, my breath coming in ragged bursts, fury sharpening my vision.
But he's fast. Too fast. He dives into the car, slams the door, and the engine roars. I sprint harder, nearly tearing my lungs out, but the car screeches away, tires burning against the asphalt.
I stop, chest heaving, fists clenched so tight my nails cut my palms. My whole body shakes with rage. If I catch him, I'll break him apart.
But he's gone.
Hayoung's POV
I drop to my knees beside Nayoung, my hands trembling as I reach for her. "I—I tried—I saved her, I pushed her!" My sobs choke me, guilt flooding through every nerve. Her head—blood—so much blood.
"I thought—I thought I saved you, but—" My voice collapses into broken cries. My chest feels like it's tearing apart. My best friend. My protector. My sister in everything but blood—like this because of me.
Tears blur my sight. My body shakes uncontrollably. "I'm sorry, Nayoung, I'm so sorry..."
Taehyung's POV
I cradle her closer, my tears dripping onto her hair. "Don't close your eyes! Don't you dare close them!" My voice cracks into a sob. My entire world is in my arms, bleeding.
Her hand twitches faintly against my chest, and it only breaks me more. My tears won't stop. My heart feels like it's splitting into pieces I can't put back together.
I look up at the sky, screaming, my voice raw. "WHY?!"
Jungkook's POV
I run back, pulling my phone from my pocket, dialing with shaky fingers. My voice is rough, urgent.
"Ambulance! Hurry! A woman's injured, bleeding from the head—send someone, now!!"
I kneel down beside them, pressing a hand on Taehyung's shoulder, grounding him, though my own tears threaten to fall.
"She'll make it," I whisper like a vow, my throat tight. "She has to."
Boss's POV
I swirl the glass of whiskey on my desk, smirking as I glance at the clock. By now, it should be done. Clean. Quick. The man never fails.
I lift the glass to my lips, savoring the bitter taste. Soon, news will come. My revenge complete.
I lean back, closing my eyes with satisfaction. "Goodbye, Nayoung."
