Author's POV
The shoot ended late in the afternoon, golden light bleeding through the high windows of the studio. Assistants bustled around packing equipment, models were changing back into their own clothes, and Hayoung stood near the edge of the set, sipping water and staring at nothing.
Rohan approached again, his jacket draped over one arm, tie slightly loosened — the picture of someone who'd been working just as hard as everyone else, though he'd barely broken a sweat.
"You powered through," he said, offering a small smile. "Even with everything on your mind."
Hayoung gave a polite nod. "Work's work."
"That's what I like about you," he said. "You don't let personal drama derail you." His tone was approving, almost proud — the kind of praise that made her shoulders straighten without realizing.
A Gentle Nudge
They walked toward the exit together. He matched his pace to hers, casual but attentive.
"Listen..." he began, "I didn't mean to overstep earlier. What you told me about Jungkook — it's your private life. I just... worry about you."
Hayoung glanced at him. "Why?"
"Because I've seen what happens when talented people get held back by the people they love," he said, looking forward as if speaking from memory. "It starts with small things — missed events, arguments about time, little digs about priorities. And before they know it, they've compromised so much for 'keeping the peace' that they've lost the fire that made them special in the first place."
He let out a short breath. "I'd hate to see that happen to you."
Hayoung's Doubt
She didn't answer right away. Part of her wanted to dismiss it — Jungkook wasn't like that. Nayoung wasn't like that. But then...
Wasn't last night's fight kind of like that?
Hadn't she already skipped two work events just to make time for him when he asked?
The thought lodged uncomfortably in her chest.
The Wedge Deepens
As they stepped outside, Rohan continued, "And about Nayoung... I know she's your best friend, but I can't shake the feeling that she doesn't really trust you to make your own decisions when it comes to me."
"That's not true," Hayoung said automatically — but it came out weaker than she meant.
He glanced at her with a faint, almost sad smile. "Maybe not intentionally. But... think about it. When was the last time she asked how you felt about your work — not whether I was pushing you too hard, or whether the schedule was too much — but you? Your own opinion?"
Hayoung opened her mouth, then closed it again. She couldn't remember. Nayoung had been asking about Rohan a lot... and usually in a suspicious tone.
Seeding the Isolation
Rohan stopped at the curb where his car waited. "I'm not telling you who's right or wrong, Hayoung. I'm just saying — sometimes the people we think are protecting us are actually protecting their version of us. The one that fits their comfort zone."
His eyes held hers for a moment longer than necessary. "Don't let anyone shrink your world because they're afraid of how big it could get."
Hayoung swallowed, unsure why his words felt heavier than the warm evening air.
Hayoung's POV
Maybe... maybe he wasn't entirely wrong.
Maybe Jungkook was reacting because he felt left behind.
Maybe Nayoung's constant questions about Rohan weren't about care, but about control.
The more I turned the thoughts over in my head, the more they didn't sound like poison — they sounded like possibilities. And possibilities... could be true.
