"Kiara Malfoy"

Chapter 1: Back to Hogwarts

The first of September had finally arrived and Kiara could not be more thrilled for this day. The day itself was crisp and sunny. Today was the day that all young witches and wizards would return to Hogwarts to commence their school year, with their hooting owls, loud exclamations of reunion and laughter as stories from the summer passed through their lips. It was difficult not to smile in excitement at the thought and Kiara was unable to control herself from doing so when she opened her eyes that morning. It reminded her of the feeling that she got every September First, remembering the excitement she felt as she stepped onto the crowded Platform 9¾.

She remembered her First-Year quite well, like anyone would. She sat with Draco that train ride, listening to his gleeful remarks about being in Slytherin. She remembered the smirk on his face when the Sorting Hat barely touched his head and shouted "SLYTHERIN!" He swaggered over to the Slytherin Table and sat down on the bench in the middle of Crabbe and Goyle as if it were a throne, waiting in anticipation for his sister to join him. She didn't however, not because the Sorting Hat chose for her but because she chose for it. She never wanted to be in Slytherin like the generations of family before her. She was always drawn to the Gryffindor House, even at a young age. She wanted to be brave and strong, perhaps because she was brought up by a father who never loved her. And, even though she was scared to face his reaction when he found out, she didn't care. She didn't want to be sorted into Slytherin because of fear.

Kiara missed her friends dearly over the holidays, particularly because she had no contact with them. Lucius Malfoy was quick to stop all letters addressed to his daughter, cursing them with his wand so they burnt and smouldered into small piles of ash. Unfortunately for Kiara, with each letter, an agonising punishment would follow. Her friends was quite used to it, knowing that Kiara lied to Lucius about their friendship for her own protection so they didn't persist after the first two or three letters.

A part of her wished that she could've at least sent a letter to Fred but she knew that if she told him anything about her situation, he would behave rashly and appear at her bedroom window in the middle of the night, ready to save her. It provided her little comfort that he would jump at the opportunity to protect and save her if she needed it.

Kiara did not ponder over these horrible thoughts much more. Instead, she smiled and shook her head, realising that she could finally leave Malfoy Manor and return to Hogwarts. The Manor was dark and unwelcoming, completely opposite to Hogwarts. It was impersonal without photos of the family detailing the walls. She would be able to walk away from these memories and replace them with much better ones. As she pushed away the satin sheets, she glanced at the large mirror propped against the wall.

Her appearance was quite awful, to say the least and she felt quite disgusted in herself. Her hair, skin and clothes were stained with dry blood from the night before. She was lucky that Ruby was able to heal her, otherwise she wasn't sure if she would've been alive by now.

Fortunately, each guest bedroom was fitted with an ensuite bathroom, completed with a walk-in wardrobe filled with an assortment of clothes. It was no surprise in Malfoy Manor. The Malfoy family did not waste any opportunity to show off their strict pure-blood heritage and their wealth. Hence, Malfoy Manor was fitted with over twenty bedrooms, most of which were never touched or slept in but they were there in case they were ever needed by visiting relatives or family friends. Kiara was lucky to have one of the larger bedrooms over the years, yet she couldn't help but notice that Draco's seemed to be twice the size and had one of the best views. She knew that he was the favourite out of the two, particularly in her father's eyes, so she wasn't jealous or envious.
