Chapter 29: Valentine's Day

The morning after, there was an announcement of a breakout at Azkaban where all the large and notorious Death Eaters escaped, including Antonin Dolohov, Augustus Rookwood and Bellatrix Lestrange. The entire student body at Hogwarts was apprehensive and fearful at the idea that most of Voldemort's followers were at large once more. For Kiara, she was terrified of Bellatrix, who also happened to be her aunt. It was no secret anymore about what she did to Frank and Alice Longbottom, Neville's parents, sending them into permanent madness with the Cruciatus Curse. She was one of Voldemort's most loyal Death Eaters for her inhumane methods of torture and killing.

After a month of Occlumency lessons, Kiara's headaches were becoming a daily experience. They were beginning to take a toll on Harry and herself. Somehow, she was forced with nightmares of Voldemort killing everyone each night with a flash of green light.

Umbridge's growing control over Hogwarts wasn't lifting anyone's spirits either. Hagrid was now currently on probation and decrees kept getting passed each day. The latest of which was a target at Kiara herself, with the ruling that 'all students must refrain from changing their physical appearance each day.' To most students, Hogwarts was becoming less of a home and more of a prison. For the Fifth-Years, the commencement of the OWL exams was approaching, restricting Kiara from spending her free time with Fred and George. While the twins were neglecting their NEWT studies and focussing on Weasley's Wizard Wheezes, Kiara was becoming growingly busier with schoolwork.

The only opportunity where Kiara could spend time with Fred was during meal times, DA meetings and the occasional free hours they were able to share on the weekends when Kiara finally finished her homework for the week. Fortunately for the couple, it did not negatively affect their relationship. Instead, it helped them to become stronger and more appreciative of the time that they did share together. It is true that absence can make the heart grow fonder.

The morning before Valentine's Day, Fred entered the Great Hall with a big grin on his face. In front of everyone, he proceeded to ask Kiara on a date to Hogsmeade with a small firework display of a multitude of colours and sparks. Despite her surprise, she couldn't hide her happiness as she said yes and kissed him, despite the presence and stares of everyone inside the Great Hall. Unfortunately, Snape took away twenty house points for an inappropriate display of affectionate behaviour but Dumbledore only winked and awarded Fred and Kiara with an additional thirty house points for demonstrating such adoring love in public. According to the Headmaster, young love was difficult to find and needed to thrive. Lucky for them, Umbridge wasn't in the Great Hall at the time otherwise they would've breached some sort of Decree.

Kiara awoke early on the fourteenth of February, eager for the day to begin. Despite the large pile of homework, today she would take a much needed break and spend her first Valentine's Day with my boyfriend. Kiara smiled at the thought of referring to Fred as her boyfriend, rather than solely her best friend. Although they had been dating for months, the term felt familiar on her tongue.

With a skip in her step, Kiara got ready for the day. She dressed herself casually, wearing a lavender knit jumper and cream scarf with jeans and boots. Kiara curled her hair softly, changing from the usual wave and applied soft makeup.

"Ready for your date?" Hermione asked when Kiara returned to the dormitory, glancing up from the book she was reading. She smiled, happy for her friend.

"Yes!" Kiara said excitedly, the smile not faltering. "I'll see you soon then!"

Kiara walked down the stairs happily, meeting Ginny on the way who was dressed in her Quidditch gear. She didn't look quite happy about it either. "Quidditch practise," Ginny grumbled, answering Kiara's questioning look. "Angelina wants a full day's training, she thinks it's going to help. I heard about your little date with Fred though, I want details." She winked at her as they entered the common room. Kiara rolled her eyes but before she could reply, there was a yell from the other side of the room.
