"Kiara Malfoy."

Chapter 31: Finding a Balance

It was Monday evening and Kiara was walking down the castle with Harry, where she was going to speak with Dumbledore in the grounds while he was going to an Occlumency lesson with Snape. Dumbledore indicated a few weeks ago that Kiara didn't require as many Occlumency lessons as Harry since she was preventing Snape from penetrating her mind with ease now. She was making progress which meant that she only needed to practice Occlumency on alternate weeks, as opposed to Harry who unfortunately, still proceeded with his Occlumency lessons each Monday night.

"See you Kiara," Harry said glumly as they parted ways. Kiara waved in response, smiling to reassure him that everything would be okay. She knew that Snape put Harry through enough trouble and strife in Potions. His resentment towards Harry seemed to increase during their Occlumency lessons.

Kiara walked to the grounds where the air was chill and fresh outside. Instead of meeting in his office, Dumbledore changed their meeting place to the edge of the Black Lake, for reasons unknown to Kiara. She knew it was to do with her elemental powers, as they had been practicing once every few weeks since she found out about them. This was the first time that they would practice her elemental powers outside of his office. It was Dumbledore though so she knew that in his clever and wise mind, there would be reason behind it.

He stood in his grey robes, staring into the abyss of the lake. Even in the moonlight, she could see the twinkle of his blue eyes. He did not turn when she stood behind him. She wondered if she should make her appearance known, especially if he hadn't noticed her.

"Good evening Miss Malfoy," He murmured as though he read her mind. Times like these made Kiara wonder if Dumbledore was skilled with Legilimency as he faced her.

"Good evening Professor Dumbledore."

"You may be asking yourself why I have requested for our lessons to take place outside of my office tonight," He said softly, looking at the lake which reflected the night sky.

"Honestly sir, I trust that there would be a good reason behind it."

"Well, I have two reasons why I have asked you here today actually," He chuckled to himself. "The first is that I believe that this change of scenery may help you acquire a new elemental power. The second is that I need your help in acquiring a new member to our staff but we will discuss that later before you bombard me with questions," He added as Kiara opened her mouth to eagerly question about the 'new staff member.' They were in the middle of the school term so it was quite unheard of. She smiled sheepishly.

"Why do you think this change of scenery may assist me Professor?" Kiara asked, curious to discover what additional elemental power she could master. She knew that there were three others that she could learn. Lately, she believed that she had finally caught a grip of her fire element. She could create it without hesitation. Her only issue was controlling it, particularly at times of anger.

"I have noticed lately that you have expressed outbursts of your fire elemental power. First, during Occlumency and then recently, with Professor Umbridge in the Great Hall. I think there needs to be some sort of balance in your control. That is why I have brought you here, to master an element which may, in turn, balance your outbursts of fire."

Kiara knew that she needed to control fire, especially since it was beginning to extend past her control more often now. She glanced at the lake, considering his words for a moment. "Professor, would I need to learn how to master water? Is that why we are here?" Dumbledore nodded in response. She could not think of a better place to do so and she wondered if Dumbledore knew that. Since her First-Year, she'd always retreated to the edge of the Black Lake to clear her mind, especially when she felt pushed away from her classmates for being the twin sister of Draco Malfoy. She wondered if it would be easier to master water than it was to master fire.
