"Kiara Malfoy."
Chapter 18: Fighting at Quidditch
Kiara's eyes were glued onto the blank piece of parchment in front of her with a quill in hand. Laying on her bed sheets next to her was a mirror, reflecting her face when she lifted it towards her. Every few seconds, she found herself glancing at it hopefully to see what colour her eyes were.
Yet, they were constantly a shade of dark blue.
A few days had passed since she discovered her gift of Arcus Oculus. Ever since however, she was completely out of focus with her studies and everything around her. Often, she found herself ignoring conversations directed towards her since her mind was focussed on her eye colours and what emotion matched with each. She knew that her friends were hurt by her sudden withdrawal from socialisation, especially Fred. Although it was ironic, she could the hurt in his own eyes.
Unless it was for classes, she constantly spent her time in her dormitory. She was trying to search for an answer that she didn't have. The book from the library was ambiguous and didn't provide her with any direction. She wasn't at a fork in the road, she was in a maze with no idea what to do next.
Today was Saturday; the day of the Quidditch Match between Gryffindor and Slytherin. Kiara didn't have any intention of going, knowing that she wouldn't be able to concentrate on the match with her constant anxieties. If she continued to ignore her gift without making any progress on it, it would just bother her more and more. She reminded herself that it was only colours and emotions; it wasn't anything life threatening. Ultimately however, it was something that she wanted to work out for herself and her own peace of mind.
A tapping noise resurfaced her mind back to reality. She pushed the parchment and mirror under her pillow. Instinctively, she snatched up her wand from her bedside table and pulled open the curtains slowly, expecting to see some sort of danger since the entire school cohort was either in the Great Hall or making their way to the Quidditch Pitch.
The tapping noise repeated once more. She spun around and pointed her wand at the source of the noise, her reflection appearing in the window with white eyes. Immediately, she lowered her wand when she saw the source. Outside, a figure with fiery red-hair was hovering on his broomstick in his Quidditch Robes, wearing a grin.
"Fred," Kiara breathed in relief, pocketing her wand. She opened the window wide enough for Fred to fly through. He hopped off his broomstick once he was over the threshold. "You scared me!"
Fred laughed and ran a hand through his hair. "I know." She rolled her eyes at his confidence. Fred glanced around the dormitory in awe. "So, this is what a girl's dormitory looks like."
"Why are you here, Fred?" Kiara asked tentatively, expecting him to convince her to attend the Quidditch Match with his loud encouragement.
"Kiara, you haven't left your dormitory for days now, except for classes. You haven't eaten and you won't talk to me anymore," Fred mumbled sadly. Her eyes widened, she knew he was unhappy with her actions but not to this extent. "You're my best friend and you don't even talk to me."
"Fred..." Kiara whispered, sitting down on her bed. She felt guilty for pushing him away, when he hadn't done anything wrong to warrant it.
"Please listen to me, Kiara. I've missed you like I haven't seen you for months. I miss you because I know you're around but you're not really because you aren't talking to me. It's not as fun anymore, with just George and me. No one tells us off anymore and it's not the same," Fred explained softly, sitting down next to her. The bed creaked and sunk slightly under their combined weight.
