"Kiara Malfoy."
Chapter 9: Fearing The Worst
The first thing Kiara saw when she woke on Monday morning was a flash of brown, bushy hair standing over her. She screamed and jumped out of bed, like she was electrocuted. Unfortunately, Kiara knocked Hermione's head in the process with her own. She fell back onto her pillow, clutching her forehead while Hermione backed away, holding hers.
"Hermione, why did you scare me like that?" Kiara squeaked in pain. "Couldn't you tell that I was sleeping? Something that I wish I was still doing."
"I wasn't trying to scare you. I was waking you so we can go down to breakfast together," Hermione groaned, holding her head.
"I'm sorry," Kiara muttered hastily. She rubbed her forehead gently before taking her hand away, sighing.
"Kiara, it was just a small hit. Not a fracture. You won't need stitches," Hermione said, rolling her eyes.
"What on earth are stitches?" Kiara asked curiously.
Hermione sighed. "I keep forgetting that children from magical families don't know much about Muggles and their ways of life. We haven't spoken about it in Muggle Studies either. It's actually a healing method that Muggles use to sew their skin back together. It's quite painful, actually."
"I doubt that works."
"It does though, now hurry up and get ready. It's school week again!"
"Oh Hermione, I forgot," Kiara said sarcastically, taking out her school robes.
"Kiara, you need to remember these things," Hermione complained, not detecting her mockery.
"Ever heard of sarcasm, Hermione?" Kiara called over her shoulder as she walked towards the bathroom.
"Oh... Yes, of course," Hermione muttered embarrassedly.
Kiara sighed, shaking her head. She slid out of her pyjamas, leaving them in a heap on the ground and turned on the shower. She turned the shower on and allowed the hot water to splash freely over her bare body. The shower filled with a cloud of steam along with the scent of strawberries as she massaged her shampoo through her hair.
Eventually, Kiara slid down the wall of the shower, allowing the water to rain upon her. She wrapped her arms around her legs, pulling them to her chest as she placed her chin on her knee. Yesterday, Hermione told Kiara that Fred had a crush on me. It was a weird concept and she just couldn't see it. Their flirtation was merely a result of their closeness since they met. Yet, Fred was her best friend. He was her rock and he was the first person that she searched for when she entered the Common Room or the Great Hall. She couldn't imagine life without him. Was it possible that she was mistaking their friendship for romantic feelings? Kiara banged her head against the wall. Even if Hermione was right, even if there was a possibility that Fred had feelings for Kiara, could it ruin their friendship forever if it didn't work out?
A knock resounded through the room, interrupting her thoughts. She jumped up from the ground and stood up. She quickly grabbed the rail in the shower to prevent her from slipping on the wet tiles.
"Kiara, are you okay?" Hermione's soft voice called.
"Yeah, I'm fine. I'll come out now. I'll probably look like a wrinkly old woman."
Hermione laughed in response as Kiara turned the tap off and clambered out of the shower. She pulled out a red towel out from the cupboard and wrapped it around her body before changing. Using magic, her hair immediately dried and cascaded into natural curls.
