The Interview.
When Zianna explained to Hannah about what Tayyal had said, she knew that it would be a somewhat difficult interview.
She remembered that day when Tayyal saw her holding Aizah and he took her from her arms and scolded one of his sisters.
“I don't want to be a bother…”
“Hannah, dont ever say that. You are family. And I really want to help you in any way that I can. So you will go to his house. Don't worry, I will always be there. The interview will be in the afternoon, Tayyal has taken a day off due to my demand”, Zianna explains. “I will be in the guest bedroom with Aizah which is closer to the living room. Plus I already told Azhar about it. So there's no need to worry”, she added, smiling.
Hannah nodded and agreed, but deep inside, she was cautious, especially when their first encounter wasn't something worth remembering.
The day of the interview arrived, just like Zianna promised to be there for her. They both arrived at the same time.
This is it, Hannah. If he says no, there's always an internship at Uncle Aayan’s company with Azaan as his secretary. I don't like asking for help because of the past between our mothers. I know they have forgiven each other but I still need to be prepared for anything that will happen.
Zianna knocked on the door. After a few minutes, Tayyal opened the door with Aizah in his arms smiling.
“Asalam Aleikum, you forgot didn't you?” Zianna asked her brother with a smile.
“Waleikum salaam, no I didn't forget. I was about to put Aizah to sleep when you knocked and now she won't sleep…”
Tayyal didn't even finish what he was saying when Aizah held her hands towards Hannah who smiled but didn't want to take her because of what her father said to her when they first met when she was holding her.
“Give her to Hannah, Tay”, Zianna said, when she saw that her brother wasn't doing it.
She took Aizah and handed her to Hannah who looked confused but couldn't say anything.
“Are you going to let us inside? Or are you going to let the neighbours witness the interview?” Zianna asked, teasing him.
Tayyal moved away from the door to let them inside. He led them to the living room but it looked like a playroom with all Aizah's toys scattered all over the place.
Zianna shook her head, knowing that her brother didn't want anyone to help him, even though he needed it.
It has been a few months since Zoya's death and Zianna knew that it would take more than a few months for everyone to go back to the way they were.
Especially for Tayyal.
She looked around and saw that Tayyal had removed a picture from the wall.
It was a picture of Zoya in the hospital holding baby Aizah in her arms with Tayyal at the back staring at them.
Zianna knew that her brother had placed it in his study because it was a painful picture, a reminder that Zoya died and left her baby girl, who wasn't even three months old.
“How about Hannah putting Aizah to bed while I help clean this?” Zianna asked, hoping that her brother would agree.
“I…”
“I promise I would not do anything else except put her to bed”, Hannah said, looking at Zianna who smiled.
“He knows that”, she said. And then leads her to Aizah's nursery which was near her father's study.
