I was rereading my favorite book from eighth grade and a certain redheaded girl x raven haired guy reminded me of a certain favorite pairing of mine....

"So, what exactly are we doing here?" Richard asked his three best friends.

Megan smiled at him, handing everyone big black sharpie markers, "We're drawing smiley faces on tulips."

"You said you wanted to join us, right?" Zatanna almost glared at Richard.

"Yup!" Richard saluted. "Call me Agent R. Happy Tulips coming up!"

The four teens spread throughout the garden, painting simple smiley faces on red, yellow, and punk tulips.

"I've always thought that tulips were the happiest of flowers..." Megan sighed happily, examining the work they'd done so far.

"Hey, Megan?" Connor asked, "Do you mind if I do something else?"

"Sure!" Megan was well well aware that her cheeks were turning the same shade of bright red as her hair. She watched as Connor, the author of the group, cupped a tulip in his hand and carefully began to write something on the petals with his sharpie. He repeated the action with five more tulips.

When he was finished with his mini-project, Megan leaned over his shoulder to see what he'd written.

"Somewhere between darkness and wonder..."

"..is every dream."

"Somewhere between breaking and broken..."

"...there's a song to sing."

"Somewhere between nothing and something..."

"...is everything."

"That's beautiful, Connor," Megan whispered in wonder as she finished reading. "Where is it from?"

"Where?" Uh, me. I wrote that." Connor stumbled over his words.

"Really? Wow, you're quite the wordsmith." Megan said sincerely.

"Thanks." Connors blue eyes met Megan's brown ones, "And your portraits are quite...expressive. Yet simple."

"I learned that lesson from my old art teacher." Megan ran a hand through her hair at the memory. "I'd make something overly complicated, and she'd write K.I.S.S. on my paper: Keep It Simple, Stupid."

Zatanna quickly finished up the last tulip. "And I think we are simply done!" She snapped the cap back on her sharpie. "So, Red, you riding your bike home?" She asked Megan.

"Um, yeah." Megan looked at the old thing, a hand-me-down from Richard, that she'd only learned to ride recently.

"Okay!" Zatanna beamed at her friend. "Well, were walking back this way. See you at school tomorrow. Ride safe, Megs!"

"Thanks," Megan murmured, walking her bike down the street opposite the direction Connor and the others were walking.

"Wait, I don't want to go..." She thought. She looked at her phone. What should she do? Yell? Text? What would she say?

Just like that, her phone vibrated with a text message. From Connor.

"So I was thinking..."

"Thinking of what?" Megan sent back.

"...of kissing you."

Megan touched her fingers to her lips.

"I'm walking back." She told Connor.

"Already on my way."

Megan leaned against her bike, watching as Connor came back around the corner he'd disappeared with Zatanna and Robin moments before.

"I, um, I think the marker fumes must have gotten to you." She told him nervously. "You can't like me...I mean, you think you know the real me, but I'm really a mess. I bite my nails and I'm awkward-"

"-And you interrupt people. I know all these things." Connor had reached her by now, and placed a hand on Megan's lips.

"Tell me, Megan, what was that acronym you just told me about?" His hand moved to her cheek, brushing some bangs from her eyes.

Megan took a deep breath, "K.I.S.S. Keep It Simple..."

Then Connor's lips met hers.

"Stupid." She thought to herself.
