So, I came up with an alternate ending for my "Stay With Me" story. Though, if it had been the actual ending, it would have been really short and boring. :/
Emotions and thoughts swirled around her.
"I can't do this," she thought desperately.
Memories taunted her at the edges of her mind.
At first, they were good; joining the team, watching "Hello Megan!", meeting Connor and the others, her first kiss, meeting Marie Logan and her young son, defeating the League on New Year's Eve.
And then it all went downhill.
Destroying the minds of Kaldur and the Kroloteans.
Trying to make Connor forget.
Breaking up with him.
Moving on to La'gaan.
Having absolutely no regrets for what she did...what she kept doing.
At last, she gave up.
"Go ahead, finish it then. It's what I deserve."
She looked up at her opponent. In full-Martian form, D'oom looked incredibly terrifying, especially to one who hadn't grown up on Mars. Like B'arrzz O'oom, D'oom's attempt at smiling only made him more malicious.
"Die, you White Witch!" He shouted, a sense of victory in his voice.
M'gann screamed as the sheer amount of psychic energy attacking her, tearing at the core of her mind. D'oom was taking apart her mind piece by tiny piece. Examining her fears, chopping up her memories into tiny little pieces.
He was killing her slowly, and he was enjoying it.
Tears welled in the corners of her eyes.
"Go ahead and do it." She thought. "I deserve it."
"NO!"
His voice shocked her out of her submissive state. A strong hand took hers in a vice-like grip, unwilling to let go, and Connor Kent appeared in M'gann's mind
"Connor get out of here! He'll kill you too!" She was frightened at the very thought.
Connor shook his head insistently. "Not if it means losing you!"
D'oom chuckled darkly, drawing the attention of the two teammates.
"Listen to your little friend, Superboy. I hardly see what you value in the filthy creature, anyway."
D'oom didn't seem to have learned a thing from M'gann's memories. He was only making Connor mad.
"Connor, go, just go." M'gann said. "I can't hold on much longer!"
"Yes you can!" Connor insisted. He held up their joined hands.
"You're strong, M'gann. You can do this!"
She looked at him, remembering that night in Bialya over five years ago.
"Will you help me?" She whispered.
Connor nodded. "Together." He promised.
"Together." She agreed.
Together, they faced the wicked red Martian.
"Get. Out. Of. My. HEAD!!" M'gann cried, Connor's anger spilling over into hers. They pointed their fists at D'oom, and with a pained shout, the memories and pieces he'd been toying with flew back into place. D'oom was forced out of M'gann's mind, thrown back through dozens of buildings complete with ancient Martian architecture.
M'gann's psyche disappeared from around Connor, and he found himself back in the ruins of Mars' capital. He looked up just in time to see M'gann stumble backwards, and he instinctively caught her, shielding her with his own body as the building around them crumbled, ruined in the psychic fight between M'gann and D'oom.
He carefully carried her to the edge of the ruins, setting her down in a comfortable spot clear of rubble.
"M'gann? M'gann?" He asked, whispered at first, but louder the second time.
Her eyes fluttered open.
"Connor?" She asked. He nodded, smiling at her proudly.
"You did it M'gann, you stopped him." He said, hugging her close.
Suddenly, M'gann pushed him away, falling back on her hands and knees. "Why did you save me?" She asked. It wasn't a cold question, It was an honest one, one that cut Connor to the core.
"M'gann, I..."
"After all I've done, do I deserved to be saved from someone like D'oom? Don't you hate me?" She asked. She squeezed her eyes shut, clutching the red dirt in her hands.
Connor walked over and took M'gann's hands in his, pulling her up to a standing position.
"M'gann, you never deserved for me to say those hurtful words to you. If anyone is least deserving of those words, It's you. You're smart, you're beautiful, you're brave and talented, and you're kind, too. You showed me I could be more than something everyone expected me to be. Everyone just looked at me like I was Superman's clone with anger issues, but you saw more to me."
M'gann looked up at Connor, and he wiped a few tears from her eyes.
"M'gann, I...I love you." He whispered.
His arm went around her waist, the other hand pressing against the back of her neck, bringing the two of them closer. She inhaled sharply at how close they were, closer than they'd been in a long time. Without further thought Connor closed the gap between them and kissed M'gann.
Joy flooded her mind, restoring the cherished link between hers and his, one free of abuse and full of love.
At that moment, Beast Boy choose to walk around the corner of the rubble pile with the ever-curious Sphere, and stopped short when they saw what was happening.
"Well it's about time!" Garfield shouted, interrupting the loving embrace.
"What will it take to get you guys back together next time if it took an alien invasion and an alien terrorist, one right after another, this time!?" He crossed his arms and stared right back at the two older heroes.
M'gann laughed and leaned her head on Connor's chest.
"Come here, kid," Connor pulled Beast Boy in and gave him a one-armed hug. "It's gonna take a lot more than that to break us apart this time."
"Well it better!" Gar threatened.
M'gann teasingly shoved him away. "Go prep the bioship, we'll be going home soon."
Though wanting to stick around and see if there was more, Beast Boy scurried off with Sphere to do as he was told.
When they were alone again, Connor kissed M'gann's forehead.
"Together?" He whispered.
M'gann nodded, her head against his chest.
"Together."
Me: GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH BEAST BOY HOW COULD YOU!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
Haha, yeah, so I thought it'd be a funny ending for Gar to go all "Captain of the ship" on us, because I didn't know how else to end it, but I'm sorry for cutting the sweet part short ;)
