More Kon&Marie to tug your feels
Connor could hear his daughter crying before she even started. Her throat constricted, her breathing grew shallow, and she tossed her blankets off and rolled back and forth. Connor rarely turned off the super-hearing at night anymore. He was quite the restless sleeper now that Marie had been born.
M'gann did so much work during the day, and he didn't want her to have to get up for every little thing that Marie needed. It was the least he could do.
She fussed, her emerald skin splotched with white and her arm slowly changing into Martian form.
"Come on, princess, what's wrong?" Connor whispered, wrapping her back in her blanket.
Emotions not belonging to him pounded on his brain. Marie was still a baby, and Connor was just grateful that she had as much a grip on her powers as she did.
He held her close to his chest. Would she prefer the warmth or cool?
"How about I sing you a song?" He whispered. He'd heard Nightwing singing a lullaby to Zat in Romanni, and even though it was goofy Iris always calmed down when Wally sang and danced her around. Connor wasn't too good at singing, but it was worth a shot.
Marie whimpered, and Connor took the go-ahead.
"Come stop your crying, it will be alright. Just take my hand, hold it tight. I will protect you from all around you, I will be here, don't you cry..."
He deep voice rumbled in his throat, and Marie mumbled sleepily.
"For one so small, you seem so strong. My arms will hold you, keep you safe and warm. This bond between us can't be broken, I will be here, don't you cry.
"'Cause you'll be in my heart, yes, you'll be in my heart. From this day on, now and forever more..."
-
Connor heard a sobbing as the door slammed shut, and the house nearly shook as Marie ran up the stairs.
"Princess, what's wrong?" He was grateful that Marie didn't know how to lock the doors- M'gann would have been so mad to come home to something else being broken, especially if it was Connor and not baby Clark that did it.
Marie sat in the corner of her bed, curled up in a tiny ball, hugging the plush t-rex Uncle Gar had given her.
"Marie, what's wrong?" Connor sat on the bed next to his daughter, who stubbornly shook her head.
Her emotions spilled out of her mind like a waterfall, and Connor caught a glimpse of what was torturing her.
The kids at school were teasing her, calling her a freak for her expansive imagination. She had aliens for uncles, she was going to think differently than the rest of Smallville's children.
"C'mere," Connor pulled his daughter into his arms, humming to her softly. Marie loved hearing the rumble in his throat when she put her head against his chest.
"Why can't they understand the way we feel? They just don't trust what they can't explain. I know we're different but deep inside us, we're not that different at all
"And you'll be in my heart, yes, you'll be in my heart. From this day on, now and forever more..."
-
Marie sat at the dining room table, staring at her phone.
Connor gave M'gann a questioning glance, and she shook her head, carrying the laundry upstairs to put it away.
He sat down at the table next to Marie and put his hand over hers, which rested on her phone.
"What's wrong, princess?" He whispered.
Marie dug the heel of her palm into her eye, trying to stop the tears.
"'Ryan and I broke it off."
Connor's fist clenched, but Marie quickly grabbed it.
"No, no, dad, it's okay," she choked out, "We both agreed that it was for the best.
"It was a mutual thing," she whispered, "I just didn't know that I'd regret it."
Connor wrapped his arms around Marie, tucking her head against his shoulder.
"Don't listen to them, 'cause what do they know? We need each other, to have, to hold, they'll see in time, I know..."
-
"You sure you have everything packed?"
"Yes, I'm going to be fine, mom. Iris'll be there to keep me 'tracted." Marie beamed at her mother, who hugged her proudly.
Marie kissed both her little brothers, and stopped at Connor.
He smiled, and opened his arms to her. "Come here, princess."
Marie leaped into his arms, kicking her legs up into the air.
"I'll miss you so much, daddy."
Connor tried to hide his tears. "I know.
"But you know..."
"What?" Marie took a step back as her father knelt down tapped her above her heart.
"When destiny calls you, you must be strong, I may not be with you, but you've got to hold on. They'll see in time...I know."
-
"Marie, what is it?" M'gann stood up from the dinner table when Marie burst in the back door, breathless and red-cheeked.
"I have something to tell you," She said signing for Martin.
"I'm engaged."
She didn't need sign language to let her little brother know as she held up her left hand.
M'gann screamed, and threw her arms around her daughter.
Martin and Clark hugged their big sister, but Connor felt glued to his seat.
His baby girl, his princess, engaged?
M'gann patted his shoulder, both of them recalling J'onn's reaction to their own engagement.
"Daddy...say something!" Marie begged. She bit her lip, watching Connor just sit there.
Finally Connor stood up, and hugged Marie tightly, just as he'd always done.
"I love you, princess." He thought.
"I love you too, daddy."
"We'll show them together, 'cause you'll be in my heart, believe me, you'll be in my heart! I'll be there from this day on, now and forever more..."
Marie looked over her shoulder, searching the pews for someone. There he was, front row with the rest of her family, smiling happily with her mother sobbing into his shoulder. The man who had always been there for her.
"I love you daddy," she thought.
"I'll be there always."
Okay I always do Marie (cuz she's my fav) but I need prompts for her brothers. Someone give me something to write with Clark and I'll write Star-Wars_SkyGurl's request for a Martin-centric shot.
And if you want any that are actually about M'gann and Connor you're gonna have to give me prompts.
