Can't take credit for the idea: found it on tumblr, and I really wanted to write more about it :3 (direct quotes from what I got off tumblr are in italics)

"I would not ask you this if I did not think you could handle it." Aqualad said slowly. Connor could hear the hesitation in his voice.

"It's okay, Kaldur, I know we're held up at the moment." Superboy nodded at Beast Boy, "Gar and I can handle this."

Garfield looked up at Connor with that adorable toothy grin of his, and the two teammates ran for the zeta-tubes, followed by Sphere and Wolf.

Nothing would stop Superboy from doing what he'd promised to do when he helped Aqualad, Kid Flash, and Robin start the team. He'd promised to help others and to protect those who could not protect themselves.

Everyone else was deployed on another mission, or, like M'gann, were too far away to get there on time. Aqualad had been promised a break long ago, and Connor would have felt cruel if he impressed their leader into going on this mission in his place.

They arrived on Earth, and Sphere turned into the Super-Cycle. Beast Boy jumped in behind Wolf, and Connor pushed the nagging fear into the back of his mind, gripping the controls tighter than he normally did.

Being a Kryptonian, there wasn't much on Earth that could hurt him.

Aside from Kryptonite, about the only thing that could kill Connor was magic.

-------

The squad of four burst into the chamber at the top of the black-stoned tower that had strangely appeared in Jump City.

"Pathetic." A dark chuckle reverberated around the mostly empty chamber.

With the magic floating through the air, Connor's infrared vision could only barely make out the shape coming towards them from the shadows.

"You young children think you can stop ME?" An elder, sinster-like, warlock said, grinning.

"Oh heck yes we can!" Beast Boy said with determination in his eyes, Superboy standing by his side facing the warlock with his arms crossed. "You're forgetting you're dealing with the Justice League! We'll take you down in a second! Espically Superboy A.K.A. The baddest of all Kyrptonians A.K.A. The guy who puts the power to the house A.K.A. My future bro-in-law!!"

Superboy turned to Beast Boy, raising an eyebrow.
"Gar..."

"What? Just saying like it is." Beast Boy shrugged.

Sphere gave a few beeps that sounded something like laughter, and Wolf only smiled up at Connor, as if to say "It's true!"

Connor sighed. "Thanks for the help, guys," he thought as the warlock's hands began to light up with magical electricity.

They dodged the first beam of the warlock's yellow-colored magical energy, but Connor wasn't feeling as perky as he felt before they got to Jump City.

Beast Boy changed into a tiger, and he and Wolf attacked the Warlock together. They managed to scratch him up quite a bit, but the Warlock threw them off with a blast of magical energy. He stood up, and Connor could scarcely believe his own eyes as he watched the warlock's newly-sustained injuries vanish as if they had never occurred. Even the tears on his robe were repaired!

As Sphere charged forward, the warlock also blasted her backwards with such force that she was lodged into the wall, unable to free herself.

"Pathetic," the warlock shook his head, "truly pathetic."

Beast Boy had recovered some from the blow to his head. Spotting the warlock zeroing in on Connor, who was starting to sweat a little bit, Beast Boy knew he couldn't let his practical brother get killed by some egotistical magician wannabe. He changed into a giant green gorilla and grabbed the magician in a great big bear hug.

"You mutt!" The magician screamed. He let out another blast of magical energy, and Gar grit his teeth to keep from screaming.

"I'll deal with you later," the warlock promised Superboy, focusing instead on the younger boy.

But Superboy wasn't one to be kept waiting, especially when Beast Boy was involved.

"RAAUGH!" Connor leapt through the air and knocked the warlock aside.

He knew he was doomed when he saw the look in the warlock's eyes.

"Or, I could deal with you now...Kryptonian." He sneered, his eyes glowing with the same magic in his hands.

"So much for future bro-in-law," Connor thought sadly.

"CONNOR!" Gar's scream was the last thing he heard, and the face of a beautiful red-haired girl was the last thing he saw before the warlock's magic blinded him he plunged into darkness.

-------

"Connor? Can you hear me?"

"Connor, Connor please wake up!"

Gentle hands caressed his cheek, brushing hair away from his eyes.

Connor ached all over.

Well, at least the pain told him that he wasn't dead.

And that voice told him it was alright.

"M'gann?" He whispered. He opened his eyes a little bit, and blurry shapes started to form.

He blinked his eyes, and he could see M'gann clearly against the white background of the Watchtower's medical wing.

"Are you alright?" M'gann asked, smiling at him.

"I'm fine, I think." He muttered.

"Good," she kissed his forehead, "Maybe that'll teach you to bite off more than you can chew."

Connor turned slightly red at the accusation, knowing full well that it was true.

"Sorry. What happened?"

"Well, after you blacked out, Wolf, Gar, and Sphere were about to make their last stand when Zatanna and I showed up with the bioship and blew the roof off the tower. Zatanna stopped the warlock guy, who's being held in the Tower of Fate now, and I got the rest of you out in the bioship."

"I didn't know you'd be back from Mars so soon," Connor mused aloud, rubbing the new, magical scar on his chest.

"I didn't think so either. I really miss it when I'm here, but when I was there visiting with my family, all I could think about was you...And everyone else!" M'gann added quickly, her green cheeks tinted pink.

"And...when Aqualad said that you were fighting a magician, I knew you'd need help."

Connor squeezed her hand gently. "Thanks."

He thought about what Gar had said. Was it really possible? He and M'gann were going slow on the path to getting back together, but marriage? Could they really ever be that someday?

Connor quickly reached  out and, ignoring the pain in his chest, hugged M'gann tightly.

"Connor, are you-?" She started, surprised at his sudden  show of emotion.

"I'm fine, M'gann." He said quietly. "I'm just thinking about the future."
