Kon-El watched M'gann play in the garden with their daughter. Already M'gann showed signs that they would soon be having another child

Marie caught sight of Kon, and gave him a big smile. She ran bare-footed through the tall, golden grasses growing in the yard and took a flying leap into her father's arms.

M'gann laughed happily as Marie put her tiny arms around Kon's neck and kissed his cheek. The wind whipped their identical dark hair and loose clothes around them, tinted a yellowish color in the Light of the setting sun.

They about to take Marie inside for her bedtime when they saw something running down the road from the village.

M'gann caught sight of two redheaded figures and one blonde, and knew exactly who it was.

"Wally, Artemis, what is it?" M'gann asked as their friends stopped right outside the gate that surrounded their yard.

Wally held their daughter Iris, and Artemis held a small bag of belongings.

"Stormtroopers...in the village..." M'gann looked at Kon, who was just as shocked. The village was only about three kilometers away.

"What are they doing? Why are they here?" M'gann asked, even though she already knew why they were probably here.

"They said they were looking for a Jedi." Artemis said.

Their friends continued on to the hidden shelter in the mountain, and Kon and M'gann started to pack.

"M'gann, you can't do what I think you're about to," Kon said, grabbing his wife by the wrist.

"Kon, I have to. It's my duty."

"No, you don't have to. The Galaxy told you that they didn't need you to do your duty when they ordered me and my men to kill you!" Kon snapped angrily.

"Our daughter needs you. Our unborn child needs you.

"I need you." He whispered.

M'gann stared at Kon for a long time before making her decision.

"Take Marie into the mountains," She took a small metal rod out of a box under their bed and attached it to her belt, "I'll meet you there."

"I'm not going without-"

"Would you rather go there  of your own free will, or have me force you to go?" She asked angrily.

Kon nodded grimly and went out into the backyard.  He only walked about half a kilometer into the shade of the trees that covered the side of the mountain just outside their farms when he stopped and set his infant daughter  on the ground. He put to fingers in his mouth and let out an ultrasonic whistle that only one creature on the planet could hear.

Wolf, his companion and friend, came running down the hill towards him.

"Hey boy," Kon knelt down and put his arm around Marie and a hand on Wolf's neck, "I need you to take Marie and follow Artemis and Wally, okay?" He asked.

He gave Marie a small bag of things she would need and set her on Wolf's back, "Hang on tight, and whatever you do, don't let go. And don't look back."

"Daddy, where are you going?" Marie asked quietly, trying to be as brave as a three-year-old could, but fear causing her voice to tremble.

"I'm going to find Mommy," Kon told his daughter, knowing it might be the last time he ever saw her. He suddenly grabbed  her and hugged her tight, "I love you."
