The next day, at school, I was opening my locker, and when I put in the combination, A piece of folded paper fell to the floor. I picked it up and unfolded it. What I saw on there was a surprise. It said:
Hi.
I've noticed you in the halls recently. I think you're a really pretty girl. I just wanted to say, don't let mean words get to you. Besides, I think your friend Valery will help with that. Anyways... I'll see you around.
From,
Your admirer.
"Admirer"? What did that mean?
I shook the thought out of my head and grabbed my stuff for first hour. All through the day, until lunch, I was thinking about what the letter said. "Your admirer" And every time I got distracted, someone had to wave a hand in front of my face.
When lunch came, I saw Valery waving to me. I smiled and sat next to her. She looked at me, with her brow raised.
"What happened to you?" she asked, "You look a bit shocked."
"Oh," I said, "Yeah... about that."
I explained to her about the letter and how I was thinking about it the whole day. When I was done explaining, she smiled, while biting her bottom lip.
"Someone has a crush on you!" she whisper yelled, "I wonder who it could be."
A... crush? I've never been anyone's crush. I've never had a crush on anyone before, and I don't think I will anytime soon. I shrugged as an answer to Val and began eating my sandwich. She chuckled but started eating too.
After lunch was science. I hated the fact that that boy was going to be there. I take a breath in, before heading into the room. I let out a relived sigh, when I saw I was the first one in the class. I take my seat and look at the board. I write my homework and start drawing again.
I started drawing a girl on the beach watching a sunset, when I heard footsteps coming towards me. I slightly glance towards where the person was, and I let out a quiet sigh of frustration. I knew exactly who it was.
"Well, well, well," the bully said, "Our artist is at work again, I see."
"Go away," I replied, with anger in my voice.
I could feel him step back.
"Whoa there, sassy," he said, "Just stating the obvious."
"And I don't like you stating the obvious right now."
"Fine," he said, "I'll leave you." But before he left for his desk, he grabbed my drawing from my hands. I tried grabbing it back from my seat, but he was with his group of friends by the time I stood up. I sighed and put m hand to my forehead. Maybe this class assignment might get me off my mood.
"You okay, Reese?" I heard Val ask, in the middle of class.
I looked at her and smiled.
"Uh, yeah Val," I replied, "Just... a little tired."
She smirked at me.
"Tired of the letter, or just in general," she whispered.
I glared at her from the corner of my eye. I saw her put her hands up slightly and surrendered.
"Okay, okay," she said again, "I guess you don't like to talk about this stuff."
I glanced at where that bully was, and I saw that his face was slightly red. I looked at him in confusion, and Valery noticed. She was even more confused than I was, when she saw that kid's face.
"What's his problem?"
"I'm not sure," I replied, "But whatever he's turning red for, I hope one of the kids at his table embarrassed him."
"Let's hope so."
I went back to my work in silence, for the rest of the day.
