You groaned softly as the insistent knocks continued on the front door. You pick your phone up, squinting your eyes to see that it was two in the morning. Who the hell would be visiting you at this hour?

You thought about ignoring it when the knocks came again, just as insistent as before. You reluctantly stood up from the bed and made your way through the dark hallway and rooms, turning on lights to illuminate your path.

With doubtful hands, you hesitated a moment before swinging the door open. You took a step back as you noticed Ashton standing there. His hand was red, probably from knocking on the door too many times. As if by instinct, your arms wrapped around your body and you blocked his path.

"What are you doing here?" Your voice was flat as you spoke. You suddenly felt wide awake. Your heart raising inside of your chest as he turned his hazel eyes on you.

"I know I shouldn't be here... Not after seeing you last month at the baby shower and the things you said but I have nowhere else to go." He rambled.

"What about Calum? Or Michael? Or Luke? Can't you go wake up one of them?" You asked.

"No, they wouldn't understand. Not like you do. They think I need to suck it up and deal with all of this. I can't though, I don't want this. Not with her, not like this..." He ran a hand through his hair and let out a humorless chuckle. "Please, can I come in?"

You gripped the door tighter. You didn't want to fall into it again. It was too late now. Things couldn't be fixed between the two of you. The circumstances were too complicated now but you still found yourself pulling away from the door and inviting him in.

Ashton looked behind him to the empty streets before he walked inside and headed straight for the kitchen to fix himself some coffee. The actions so familiar. So many times he had done the same thing, and now it just felt wrong.

"What do you mean you can't do it? Ash, you're having a daughter. You can't just walk away from that and I don't think I am the right person to be talking about this to..."

"She doesn't listen. She's always trying to guilt me into something else. It is all my fault. I'm the bad person." He sighed, nervously rummaging through the cupboards until I pulled out a mug and handed it for him. I had done my share of reorganizing in the last few months. "Like tonight... She wakes me up in the middle of the night because she wants tea. And that's not the craziest thing she's woken me up for. I went and did it for her but when I brought it she began to scream at me because it was done wrong. Every time I do something, she just finds a flaw. I'm sick of the fights. I don't want to bring a baby into this..."

"But you are..." You said, laying down the facts for him. The cruel truth.

"I know! I know, Y/N! Don't you think I fucking know!" His voice rose, startling you. His arms were keeping you in place against the counter as face lowered to be leveled with yours. His eyes looked dark. He was terrified. He had dreams. He wanted to do so many things and this had come in the way of all that. It had been his own damned fault but you pitted him...

You raised your hand to place against his chest and by reflex, his forehead pressed against yours. "You're doing the right thing..." You whispered and he just chuckled at that, dismissing it by saying he always did.

"That's why I lost you..." He added but before you could say anything his lips were on top of yours. You knew the right thing was to push him away but so many emotions rushed back, that instead of doing that you tangled your fingers into his hair. You brought his lips closer to yours as he picked you up and placed you over the counter.

His lips moved feverishly on top of yours, his hands underneath your tank top exploring your skin as your legs wrapped around him. You didn't want him to regret it, you didn't want him to pull away.

Hours later when you were panting underneath him as he rolled over and laid beside you, you realized what a mistake this had been. How had you let this happen?

"What are you thinking, Y/N?" He asked softly, his fingertips caressing your hips slowly. You stayed quiet, closing your eyes. How could you tell him that this had been a mistake? That this didn't change anything? "I don't regret this..." He whispered, nuzzling your shoulder tenderly.

"Ashton, but-" You began to say before the sound of his phone ringing interrupted you. The both you scattered around the room trying to find it.

"Hello?" He asked a little breathless as he pressed the phone to his ear. You could see as his expression completely fell. His eyes grew wide and he even paled a few shades. "I-I'm on my way." He hurried to say before he hung up and began to get dressed.

"What's going on? Where do you need to go?" You asked, pulling on your underwear and a shirt to cover your body.

"She's gone into labor... I-I've got to go." He said, stopping at the door to look back at you.

"I can't keep waiting for you, Ashton." You whispered softly, your heart pounding. "I can't keep doing this..."

"I know..." He whispered sadly before he turned around and left.
