The soft light brown sandy curls fanned out against her small back, the small arms wrapped around you. Arms full of trust and love. The soft breathing filling out the silence in the small and dark bedroom as you both waited. You had spent the last two hours waiting. You had spent the last six months waiting for this day. You both had and yet when it came he was late and your little girl had grown tired of waiting.

You let out a sigh as you looked at the clock for what seemed for the thousandth time that night, this time though it was followed by the sound you had been waiting for the whole night.

Your heart raced as the front door opened and closed. Your smile growing as the footsteps got closer and closer. And there he was: black skinny jeans, gray sweater and his terrible boots. He looked thinner, he wore his hair back in a man bun, there were bags under his eyes…Even through the fabric of his shirt you could tell he had worked out a lot more regularly in the last six months. Finally and slowly your eyes met and you both smiled. His towering figure didn’t move from the door.

“She tried to stay up and wait for you.” You whispered, the words barely audible as you did not want to disturb her sleep.

“I’m sorry, my flight got delayed.” He whispered back before walking inside the bedroom and sitting down at the edge of the bed. You watched as his back muscles tensed and relaxed as he removed his shoes and carefully got into bed. The moment his arms wrapped around you and your daughter you felt like you could breathe again.

“I’ll make it up to you princess.” Ashton murmured into those sandy curls you loved very much as he pressed a soft kiss to the top of her head. His hand caressed the side of your face, gently tracing your lips with his thumb. “And to you too, baby.” He added before his lips ghosted over yours for the first time in six months.
