I wake hours later to the sound of my phone vibrating against the table...Fredo. Probably calling to check on Bobbi. I send him to voicemail with a quick text she's fine...sleeping and then switch it to silent before pulling open the drawer for a fresh, perfectly rolled blunt and a lighter.
When she finally stirs and rolls over I'm seven or eight hits into it. I lean down and give her a little kiss on the top of her head "Hey baby...want some?"
She flinches away and fixes me with a glare "No."
I lean over and balance the blunt on the edge of the end table before sliding down to lay beside her. "You have no idea how sorry I am B...I was just..." I search for the right words but everything sounds like a lame excuse so I leave it. "Why didn't you take my calls when you were gone?" I ask softly while brushing her hair away.
She pulls away a little again "I was with my family Justin...I hadn't seen them in a while. Not everyone in the world is at your constant fucking beck and call."
She's still pissed. Very pissed. And why would I have thought she wouldn't be? Truthfully, I am too...I can see his hands all over her every time I look at her. But what I did was worse, so I have to try and let it go...and I know why she did it.
"I didn't say you needed to be at my constant beck and call, but I didn't know what to think...especially since you acted the way you did when I said I wanted to stop being so secretive."
She changes her tone to reflect how angry she is, but doesn't raise her voice. "So I don't answer my phone as often as you'd like so you fuck some random girl? Really Justin? With all that shit you just went through with the paternity test drama you thought 'Hey I know! I'll just bring some fan back to my room again because I'm mad at Bobbi' God, you're such a fucking baby sometimes!"
"She was one of the dancers." I correct before I can think better of it.
Her mouth drops open in shock "Oh that's real nice Justin. Real fucking nice."
"Bobbi girl..." I call gently while pulling her in a little closer "Can't we just pretend it never happened?"
"No!" she snaps and points to the chair across the room "Because it did happen...right over there."
"So what?" I switch over to the quiet raspy voice that wins her over every time "She didn't mean shit...and neither did he right?"
She stands her ground "Not gonna work this time. But, no...he didn't."
"Then come on baby girl...it never happened. Say it with me, say 'it never happened justin'." I whisper while brushing my lips over her neck.
She pushes me away and shakes her head but she can't hide the little smile she's trying to fight against.
"Aww there it is...too late, I saw it. You smiled." I tease, pulling her back in "Do it again, come on pretty girl, smile for Justin."
She laughs and swats at me "I hate you...how do you do that shit?"
I shrug "It's a gift." And then grab the blunt and relight it. "Here..." I offer it to her again, but she isn't ready to forgive me completely.
"I said I don't want any already."
"Smoke with me a little...you know I don't like to get high alone." I pout.
She rolls her eyes "Yeah right...that's exactly what you were doing when I woke up, why's it matter now?"
"Fine..." I release a greatly exaggerated sigh "I'll just be over here all by myself like a big loser."
She throws the blankets off and then offers me a peck on the cheek "I'm getting in the shower loser."
"Real cute." I reply through the thick stream of smoke I'm exhaling "Can I come too?"
"Nope." She answers firmly before closing the bathroom door.
I shake my head and take another long hit before picking up my phone. A minute or two later I'm scrolling through my twitter timeline, when her cell begins to ring. I reach over to grab it, figuring it's Fredo trying to make sure she's okay again, but find 'Dad' displayed on the screen. I figure now's as good a time as any to get in good with her parents, so I pick up.
"Hey Bob! This is Justin, how are you?" I answer warmly.
"Oh, Hey there Justin!" He answers back in a booming, but friendly voice "I was just calling to check in with Bobbi...she paying you a decent wage to be her secretary?" He jokes.
"I'm tellin' you Bob...she's a slave driver." I laugh "No, actually we're just in the middle of a meeting and she ran out to pick up a couple files for Scooter. Forgot her phone." I can't very well tell him she's in my room taking a shower.
"Oh, well since you're in the middle of a meeting I won't keep you...just let her know I called. And thanks for answering, I would have worried if she didn't pick up her phone." He says, leaving me to think 'yeah, I know that feeling well'.
"Anytime. But since I've got you, happy belated birthday! How was it?"
"Thank you and it was great...would've been a lot better if she'd been there though."
"Who?" I ask in confusion "B?" I quickly correct myself "Bobbi?"
"Yeah, but I know that things must get crazy with your tour and all...no big deal, I'll get her out here for a visit soon enough."
My heart is pounding as thoughts and questions race through my mind but I cover well with a "Or we could fly you both out as soon as you'd like. Go ahead and plan something out with her and we'll have you here in no time for a late celebration."
"Thanks Justin! We might just do that...I'll let you go since you're busy, but thanks again and tell her to give me a call when she's free."
"No problem at all...I'm happy to do it. I'll let her know."
We say our goodbyes and I sit her phone back down and stare silently at the closed bathroom door. If she didn't go to her dad's birthday party, then where the hell was she?
