Hi everyone!
I transferred this story to docs and found that it came out at 221 955 words (over 18 hours of reading time according to Wattpad). It's a chunky one, and way longer than all my other stories on here, so thank you so much for reading this story all the way until the end!! And if anybody started reading this when I first started to update it (or somewhere in the beginning), thank you very much for having patience and sticking with me through the end. I know updates were unbearably slow once my prewritten chapters ran out, so I am very grateful for all of you for being so patient.
As you might have seen me mention in some author notes here and there, this story carried me through a lot. I started writing it in 2022 while I was still working on STORM. I was just sixteen at the time, just about to start high school (which you may have seen me state is from 16-19 where I'm from for context), and I've evolved a lot since I wrote the first line of this book nearly 4 years ago. I wrote this story for so long that I started it younger than my characters and finished it two years older than them, which is kind of surreal.
I remember randomly getting the idea for this book while I was on vacation, so I designed a cover and started writing, still not quite sure how the story would unfold. All I knew was that I wanted to write a book about a girl who didn't love herself but had an endless amount of unrequited (or so she thought) love for her best friend. Which I know is relatable for too many queer people (though, as I would personally find out during the writing of this, often doesn't work out. Let's just say that writing this was somewhat bittersweet at times...I could write a whole book about that itself.)
Anyhow, as I've said, I am not quite ready to fully say goodbye to these characters, and I also fell in love with Mai as a character while writing this, so for years I've planned that my next book will be about her. I actually wrote the first few chapters of Mai's book like two years ago, but then I was too focused on LOVELORN (even though my slow updates don't reflect that) and life, so I didn't get very far, and I want to change some things in the first chapters. Now that I've finished LOVELORN, I will invest my time into that so that I can hopefully give you guys a story you'll enjoy just as much as this one and do my girl Mai justice.
Mai's book will be set a few years in the future, when they're all well settled into college, and some new characters will be introduced. I will make an announcement when I got the cover and synopsis settled (hopefully soonish), so I won't say too much about it. But as you can probably imagine, it will delve into mental illness as well, and we will find out a lot more about Mai's backstory and how it affects her. So, I really hope to see you there!
For now, if you haven't already and you want to read more from me, I have two other books out as well as two poetry collections (one old one called 'Wonders' and a new one called 'Wisps of the World). But keep in mind that my other books were written when I was much younger, so the writing reflects that, especially 'Wretched Roses'. It still gets a lot of reads, however, so clearly there is something there people like (probably the copious amounts of drama I threw in), so do feel free to check it out if you want to see my older writing (but like be kind...I was thirteen to fifteen when I wrote it and English isn't my first language. I've studied in English the past like four years now and as of recently, I live in an English-speaking country, but back then my English was still very much developing.) The writing in STORM is a lot more improved, if you want something slightly more recent (but I was also young when writing it).
Also, I need to update the initial author's note of this story because it is so outdated.
Stay tuned for more announcements about Mai's book, the release date will be sometime this summer but I'll give a more exact day soon enough hopefully.
Thank you so much for reading, I'll hopefully see you in my future books!
