So someone the other day asked me how I write and for a few tips. So I thought I'd give all my followers a few tips. This is just how I write and make my stories. You might find them helpful or not. Also feel free to leave some tips down below if you want! So here we go!
Tip #1: Keep a journal
Sometimes I'll be walking or sitting in my room and something inspires me. So I grab one of my many journals and write it down. If your a writer, things can happen all the time that might make you think of a story idea or a character trait. Write it down in a journal or something so you can come back to it later. Even if you end up not using it, keeping it around can be good. I go back and read ideas I had and smile at how much the finished product can look. Writing things down can always help.
Tip #2: Make the plot first
Before you can decide on characters or how the story will work and stuff like that, make the plot first. Keep it basic. You can add onto a basic plot has you make the characters and the setting and all that good stuff. With a plot in hand, you can better make your characters. Are they going to be old or young? Will they be in the past or present? Aliens? With your plot, you're know!
Tip #3: Make a list for the way your characters act
Sometimes you'll be writing and you'll wonder how the characters will act. Well write down some basic things you can keep with you all the time. It'll help guide you on how they will act. It can just be a simple list so you can add more things to the character you're working with and make it better.
Tip #4: Edit last
I know when you first write, you'll want to go back and change a grammer mistake first. Don't! Have fun writing your story and the plot and all that good stuff. When you go back and make changes to the story, than you can edit it. It'll save you some time and when you are writing. Trust me, no one likes to edit, but it has to be done, so save it for last.
Tip #5: Research
If you have a story going on in the past, don't forget to research it. You can't have an iPhone in the 14th century. You may also need to know leaders and kings from periods if they are going to talk about them at dinner or something. Get to know the period before you start writing. Take notes has well.
Tip #6: Know magic if it fits the story
Some characters will be magical. I know that. So you have to know some spells and stuff. Now with this you can make spells and stuff. That's fine! But keep your own little magical book so you know the spells your be using. It can just be random letters like "Haodn ahfiodh ha." That's fine. Or it can be a sentence like "Let me change this color of the rock!" That's fine too. It can even be a backwards sentence. "Kcor eht fo roloc siht egnahc em tel!" Do whatever you want. Just know the spells and keep that going so you can make it sound better.
Tip #7: Music
Now if you like to listen to music, here's the tip for you: listen to music that matches what's happening in the story. If it's an action chapter, listen to music that matches it. Classic and calm music can change the pace and what's going on. If it's a love scene, listen to sweet, romantic music. It can really help. Gets you in the mood.
Tip #8: Get some help
Let others read your story. They might have some feed back. You have to remember, if others are going to read it, they are going to have different views on it. They can tell you what you might want to fix and how you can make it better for a few other people. Just one person isn't going to be enough. Get maybe three or four people to read it, than change it. Than get a few different people to read it. You can always improve a story.
Tip #9: Change it up
You'll never do a story and keep it just like the way you started. Ask any writer. You'll change it so many times that you'll forget how many times you'll change it. That's fine! Change a time period, change a character's look, change their age, change things to whatever you want. Your story and your idea. Don't be afraid to change it.
Tip #10: Don't give up
Many people will tell you that you can't publish this book. Don't listen to them. You can do it. Harry Potter had to go through twenty-five publishers before it got out to the public. And it's one of the most popular book series. So don't give up. You'll find someone who likes your idea and your story and you'll get it out there.
Tip #11: Have fun
This is your world and your story. You have fun with it. If it starts to bore you, you can drop it. No one will be upset if you do. Your story and your life. You do what you want. Don't let others control you. You know your idea better than anyone else.
If I have any more tips I'll leave them in the comments! I hope these helped!
Peace out my Stars!
