Part 1.) And two weeks later...

Aria POV
I had just put Ace down for a nap. He had been fussy all afternoon, and between his fighting sleep and my exhaustion, he was working up my last nerve today. I was tired, but he seemed determined to fight sleep with everything he had.

Honestly, it made me think about myself.

I didn't like sleeping either, and it seemed like he had gotten that from me. Normally, I thought it was cute, but it wasn't nearly as cute when I desperately needed him to fall asleep so I could have a little break.

Don't get me wrong, I loved him more than anything, but a momma needed a break every now and then. Yet, now that he was actually asleep, I already missed him, and it was taking everything in me not to wake him up just so I could hold him again.

But I knew if I woke him up, he would be even fussier for the rest of the day.

Instead of giving in to the urge, I laid down on the floor beside his crib, quietly watching him sleep.

I wasn't going to fall asleep. Not without Caleb.

I was tired, but not tired enough to actually fall asleep without him beside me. As I lay there staring at my son, I couldn't help but smile at how much my life had changed since meeting Caleb.

Sometimes, it almost felt surreal. Too good to be true.

I was living a dream I never thought I would get to have. I had the most amazing husband, the handsomest little boy, and amazing friends who had become more like family than anything else in this cruel world.

I was finally happy.

No, not just happy.

I was the happiest I'd been in a long time.

I suddenly noticed the bedroom door opening slightly, making me sit up on the floor to see who it was.

I didn't even need to look twice.

Just from his cologne alone, I knew it was Caleb.

He stood in the doorway, already smiling at me.

The second I saw him, I scrambled to my feet and rushed over to him, wrapping my arms tightly around his waist. I had missed his presence so badly since he left that morning.

He gently kissed the top of my head while holding me close.

"Was he giving you a hard time again?" he asked softly.

"J-Just a l-little f-fussy, b-but h-he's j-just a b-baby," I told him, making him smile.

"He's just like his mother," he teased.

"T-That's p-probably w-why h-he l-loves m-me s-so m-much," I teased back.

"Mmm, is that so?" he taunted, a smirk spreading across his face.

"Mhmm," I hummed softly.

"True, but he doesn't love you as much as I do."

"I d-don't t-think s-so," I teased, knowing exactly what I was doing.

His smirk only grew.
