Alia

My sister has been bugging me forever asking me what I was gifting her on her second wedding anniversary. I did not want to disappoint her by telling the truth, which was that I had planned on nothing. According to me anniversary is something that the couple need to celebrate on their own and not with the whole world.

"So tell me, what am I getting?" Diya asked me.

"Come on Diya. Stop bugging me. I have nothing."

"It is a surprise right? Isn't that why you are lying?" She asked. She was clearly upset.

"Maximum I can offer you is my absence. You can enjoy the whole day without encountering me. What do you say?"

She did not say anything instead rolled her eyes.

"Stop it D. Ignore her Alia." Manav jiju said coming into the room.

"Thanks jiju." I called out to him.

Oh sorry. Let me introduce you. I am Alia Verma. I am a 25-year-old unemployed MBA graduate. Being unemployed totally is my fault. I had quit my job in a MNC just to try my luck in writing, while all my friends still worked. I believe we should do what we truly love. If we are not passionate about the work we do then we would not be able to give our 100%. I have always wanted to be a writer and that has not worked out yet. I will get into those details later. I have an elder sister, Diya Sehgal. She is a high school teacher and is married to Manav Sehgal, an investment banker. Diya and I lost our parents in a car crash few months back and since then I have been living with them.

I picked up my laptop and tried to complete my story. I hate writers block. I have been trying to write the murder scene and I could not come up with the perfect scenario. I realised that there was no point in wasting my time and instead I started watching 'Dil Se Pucho' Samar's debut movie.

You do know Samar Khan, don't you?

Well, he is my favourite actor. He is perfect. Tall, dark and handsome; ring any bells?

Okay, that probably is not enough, but, believe me when I tell you that he is too good. That is, if you do not already know.

After the movie finished, I decided to go to the nearby cafe to get my head working after some people watching. I gathered the things I needed before leaving.

"I'll be back in two hours, three tops." I told Diya.

"Hey, maybe you can let me read the piece you are working on now, seeing that you haven't got me anything" Diya suggested.

"Maybe." I told and winked at her before leaving.

There was a small cafe ten minutes away from our place. I usually went there to get my daily dose of caffeine. That was also the place, where I went to get my head working or to escape from an irritating Diya at times. As I entered, I saw my favourite spot vacant. I noticed a young couple eyeing the table and wasted no time in grabbing my seat. The girl glared at me and I smirked at her. I had won. I was not being childish I had my reasons. I placed my order, opened my laptop and started thinking. The waiter who brought the drink to my table briefly interrupted me.

After a while of staring at my laptop screen, I figured out that a peaceful place like the cafe is of no use for me while trying to describe a crime scene. So I decided to do the thing I am an expert at. Procrastinate.

The cafe had free Wi-Fi so I logged on to Facebook and Twitter. As I went through the feed, I saw Samar's pictures from his upcoming release 'Rishta Yeh Kaisa?' The trailer of the movie was impressive. I was eagerly waiting for the movie to hit the theatres. Instead of doing what I had come here for, I started browsing through the pages of the new movie. Something in those pages caught my attention.
