"She's so tired. She's so adorable when she's tired." Farkle said as Riley's head softly fell on his shoulders, a dopey but tired smile on her face.
"Unicorns." She whispered as she began falling asleep. Farkle chuckled.
"I'm probably gonna take her to her tent now. Don't stay up too late guys, we have a long day back tomorrow."
He smiled at the two before leading a tired & quiet Riley back to her tent. Lucas shook his head, chuckling. Maya awkwardly looked down, and looked back at Lucas as he smiled after his laughter. Damn. She thought. How can this boy look absolutely radiant before my eyes?
"So Maya." Lucas began, turning to her. "How are you enjoying Texas?" Maya thought about it for a moment, and relaxed a bit.
"Well, huckleberry, your dad is actually pretty cool. And plus, I love the clothing style here." Maya answered, trying to not blush in front of him.
"Wow. That is very surprising. I thought you'd have a million quips up your sleeve."
"Don't start with me huckleberry. I could have a couple up my sleeve." Maya responded, raising her brows in warning.
"Fine fine, pancakes."
"Texas will probably be one of my great memories." Maya said, looking up at the starts.
"How come?" Lucas asked. Maya looked back down, arching a brow up.
"Because, it has great memories with my friends & I. We're all having a really great time." Maya smiled, shrugging.
"And the part with me & the bull?"
"Well, almost everything was great." Maya smirked. Lucas waited a second, and began to talk again.
"My dad really liked you; he told me after you and Riley went back to your hotel." Lucas informed her as she turned back to him, her waves slightly moving from the wind.
"Oh, that's good. What did he think of Riley?" She questioned, her face filled with curiously.
"He liked her too. But for some reason, he pushed her aside. He was more interested in knowing about who you were." Lucas looked up at the stars, and Maya looked back at his glowing face again, swallowing the lump in her throat. Lucas looked back at her, almost questionably but the same look of urge in his eyes.
"Lucas." Maya began, as she looked into his eyes. "Before.. When I walked in, you said I looked good."
"And I meant it when I said it." Lucas spoke, moving an inch closer to her. She didn't want to say more, but she didn't want to think either. What would Riley think? God, it'd be horrible if she found out about my feelings for Lucas. I can't let this happen.
"Lucas.. I don't think.." Maya said as Lucas got closer to her. Lucas felt her hesitations, but when he looked into her eyes, he found wanting, needing. She couldn't help it, she had a crush on the boy. Maya found this out when they were all dancing, and their eyes met-almost like a flash of electricity sparking out of a chord. The way Riley looked at the two, almost not too trusting of Maya. There was unmistakable chemistry between them, and it only took the two to just be alone. She honestly didn't know how Riley would react if they were together. But Maya was hurting; hurting that she couldn't tell her close friend how she felt about Lucas.
He leaned in and she tilted her head, and had her very first kiss. He gently placed his hand on the back of her neck, and she kept her eyes closed tightly, trying to calm her crazy beating heart.
She pulled away from his lips, looking at his sparkling eyes again. They were both unsure of this feeling that they had at the moment, but all they knew as it felt good-right. Maya bit her lip as as she thought of Riley's reaction of this. Lucas met her glance, looking deep as if he had been sucked into them.
Riley had been suspecting of the two, almost the whole trip. She caught their small glances & hesitation, but this, this was so much more. She knew the mental attraction between them was there, but physical? She didn't think
that.
"I'm probably gonna head back to my tent now. I'll see you in the morning." Lucas nodded, his smile small as he walked back. Maya was then alone, sitting on the log that her and her best friends crush had just kissed on. She felt so screwed, knowing that she'd have to end up telling Riley.
But for now, she closed her eyes, and breathed in the night air. This was her first kiss. How could she have not been any more happy, but nervous at the same time?

{Back at school}
--
They all sat in class, Maya nervous and Lucas fidgety. They were seated in their assigned seats, but Maya felt Lucas's fear as Lucas felt the same on here. Riley, Zay, & Farkle all took their seats.
"Oh, sweet old New York." Riley smiled, exhaling. Maya looked at her with an uneasy smile, and Riley matched her face, the two feeling awkward from the trip. Riley had several theories that they began to like each other over the trip. Little did she know that her theories were gonna come true.
"It's so weird to be back, again." Zay commented. "I'm gonna miss Vanessa." He cried, slumping in his chair.
"It'll be okay, man." Lucas patted his shoulder supportingly. Riley still stared at Maya and Lucas oddly. She didn't look angry, but she didn't look happy either. She turned to the front of the class. Cory began his lecture, and Maya mentally got fed up. So, she tore a piece of paper out of her binder, and wrote 'Are u mad at me? I have to tell you something.' on it, passing it back to Lucas. He then passed it to Zay, which passed it to Farkle, and he finally gave it to Maya. She opened it, and looked at Maya, inwardly sighing. She folded it back up, and looked at them again.
This time, Maya was not having this happen.
--
"Riley." She whispered. She ignored her. "Riley." She spoke louder. Cory noticed this, his voice fading out as he looked at her with curiosity. "Riley." She called out louder. "Riley, something happened between me and Lucas." Lucas stared at Maya, and then at Riley.
"Oh boy."
Riley looked at Maya, her eyes blinking a couple of times. "What do you mean?"
Maya looked at Lucas, and then down to the ground. "While we were in Texas.. We kissed at the campfire."
Riley was silent at first, her heart beating faster. "When were you going to tell me this?" She said, clenching her teeth frustratingly after.
"This isn't easy to tell you Riley." Maya responded. "And it didn't just happen like that. I kinda.. Like him." Maya breathed nervously. Riley looked at her, her mouth twitching. She calmly stood up, and silently walked out of class. Tears filled Maya's eyes as she remained seated. Lucas bit his lip, scratching the back of his neck.
"Oh." Was all Cory could say at a moment like this.
Lucas reached over, and put his hand over Maya's which was resting at the back of her chair. She closed her eyes, feeling like complete crap. She really screwed up.
-----
Riley lied on her bed, some tears escaping her eyes and rolling down her cheeks. She continued keeping the pillow pressed against her as she slightly buried her face with it. She wasn't mad at Maya. She couldn't be. It's rare when Maya had feelings like these for someone. She just wished it wasn't Lucas. Topanga was going upstairs, but heard the sound of sniffling from Riley's room. She walked in and looked at her.
"Honey are you okay?" She asked, immediately walking in. Riley looked at her mom with teared eyes, and hugged her mother tightly. She just couldn't speak at this moment.
-----
After school ended, Lucas went to Maya's apartment, climbing through her window. Maya was expecting him, so she sat on the edge of her bed, sighing nonstop each time she thought about Lucas or Riley.
"What's wrong?" He said. Maya arched an eyebrow up and Lucas quickly caught on. "Oh, yeah."
"Lucas.. I just don't know if we can do this." Maya began, looking at him with her sad blue eyes.
"What? What do you mean?" Lucas walked closer to Maya, sitting next to her.
"This. I can't hurt Riley like this." Maya bit her lip. Lucas felt his heart sink in his chest.
"Maya I just got you.. I can't lose you." Lucas turned to her, his hand touching the her cheek, caressing it with his thumb. Maya looked back into his eyes, and they teared up.
"This isn't easy for me." She choked out. "But I don't think this-we, can happen right now." She touched his hand that lied on her cheek.
"How long are we going to have to feel this way?" Lucas asked her quietly.
"Until we don't." Maya answered, a tear sliding down her cheek slowly. Lucas bit his lip, his head turning toward the ground. Maya tilted his head up, and slowly kissed his cheek. She pulled away and gave him a sad smile. "It'll be okay. We're still good friends."
Lucas tried to smile, sighing as his hand caressed her hair, pushing it out of her face. "Good friends." He repeated. Maya nodded, pulling a strand of hair behind her ear.
"One day, we'll have our time, okay?" Maya looked at him with a vulnerable expression.
"We will." Lucas promised. They both sighed, and leaned in until their foreheads were touching. They remained there, both of their eyes closed and the room quiet.
---
They both entered Riley's window, and Riley looked up from her homework. "Hi." Maya said. Riley didn't respond, she looked at the two expressionless.
"I'm not mad at you Maya." Riley answered. "I just.. Don't have anything to say right now." She got up and sat at the Bay window. Maya sat down too, and Lucas sat in the middle.
"We're not going to have some start of something, Riley. I promise you that." Maya said, and Lucas looked down. Riley didn't say anything, but it looked like she wanted to.
"Riley, we'll be okay. We always figure this out, and we move past it. We grow." Lucas said. Riley smiled a crack, but took a breath.
"We will be okay." She told them both. Cory and Topanga walked in, and they smiled.
"All good?" Cory said.
"We're fine." Riley smiled. Maya looked at her, and smiled too.
"Good." Topanga said. They linked arms and walked back out.
"Lucas, can I just talk to Maya now? It's a little more private." Riley asked. Lucas nodded.
"I'll see you guys tomorrow." He said, looking at Riley and then to Maya, climbing back out.
Maya stared at Riley questionably. "What's up?"
"Look, I didn't say that you two had to end things because of me. It's not what I expected." Riley told her friend. Maya's lips parted.
"But it's been done." Maya responded.
"And I appreciate that, but I'm not trying to stop you from feeling what you're feeling. I'm not that kind of person." Riley said.
"Would I ever be with him again?" She asked, biting the inside of her cheek.
"That's up to you two." She smiled slightly. "Not me."
"I guess things happen at the right time. I'll wait." Maya nodded, and their hands entwined.
"We'll always figure things out."
"And it'll be okay in the end."
