Maya carefully set the video camera down on her desk, letting it face her and keeping it perfectly zoomed so only she and her wall were showing. She fixed her blonde curly locks, and gave an awkward smile to the camera. "Hi. If you're watching this, it's probably the future now." She began, raising her hands up around her. "Um, so I hope you remember my best friend Riley's father, Cory Matthews, because he gave me this assignment. To make a video, and to keep it with you until you're ready to watch it."
Maya took a deep breath, and moved a piece of hair out of her face. "So I guess I'm going to talk about some things that mean a lot to me. So when I look at this in the future, I could end up having a different opinion." She half smiled, shrugging. "So, here we go. This is the first time capsule video of me, Maya Hart, 14 years old."
She rubbed her now sweaty palms on her jeans, and bit her lip. "Riley Matthews is and has been my best friend for years, as you know. She's like a sister to me; a sister I've never had." She smiled. "And taking on the world is our top priority in life. We want to show it who we are. And set good examples for our kids, who will be best friends, mind you." She raised her brows. "We are in 8th grade, and will soon be going into high school. Which is scary, and a lot more serious." She pressed her lips together tightly. "Mostly scary. But, Riley and I can get through anything. And when she watches this, she better not get all cliché. I'm warning you, Riles." She pointed her finger at the camera to inform her best friend.
~
"And now my mom. Mom, I love you." Maya smiled. "We've gone through stuff so far in our family, but you always continue to make me a happy person, no matter how angry I get, or frustrated. You're always right there for me." She blushed. "Don't get all emotional when you watch this, though. Please. But to really be honest with you mom, you're about the strongest person I've ever met. And yes, you're an amazing actress too, no matter what any person says. You've taught me a lot for the 14 years I've lived. And I can't wait to hear some more."
"And now, Farkle Minkus. The brainy dork whom I love dearly." Maya smiled sweetly, and stared at the former wedding ring he gave her. "I hope you still wear those funny clothes and have the same phrases you have now. Don't change anything. You're too important to your friends to even try. And when you and Riley get together- Riley, I'm SO calling it, I will say I told you so. Because I have. A lot." She emphasized the t. "And I know how crazy you are for her." She smirked. She ruffled her blonde hair and shyly looked down.
"And now, Huckleberry. Oh by the way, future me, that's Lucas Friar." She scrunched her nose when she said his real name. "He's a ranger Rick and a hopalong & a Sundance too." She said in a sing songy voice. "I hope you remember that song, Huckleberry." She chuckled. "But um, what can I say about you." She secretly pretended to think to herself. Maya looked back at the camera and took a breath. "Riley knows this already but, I have a crush on you. Years when we all watch this, it won't matter but, right now it does a lot to me." Maya's cheeks turned bright pink. "As Riley told me, I make fun of you, cause I like you." She mumbled. "But, uh, yeah." She shrugged it off, and cleared her throat. "Continuing on, I think you're a really close friend to me, and I don't know. You're just... A really good guy and-" She was blushing deeply. "Okay I can't. I'm dying right now." She rubbed her cheeks and rolled her eyes. "Um, anyway, you get the gist of it."
"And, Josh. This one is for you. You were my crush for months. And now, things are a lot different. Remember New Years? That was crazy." She chuckled and looked down at her lap. "But I won't forget what you had told me. But it was too late." She looked back up to the camera that stayed focused on her. "I already had fallen for someone else."
"But, you mean a lot to me. And yes, I say that in present tense because anyone who is related to Riley is definitely a friend of mine. You're just, really special to me." She nodded and smiled.
Eventually after Maya said everything she needed, she finished off by saying that she was not going to watch this until the time felt right. She smiled at the camera, muttered, "bye." And turned it off. Later on, she put the video on a flash drive and walked over to her piano that was in her living room.
She barely used it, she thought to herself. Maya put the flash drive inside of it, and closed the piano top. No one would ever know.
But, little did she know that she was wrong.

YEARS LATER IN THE FUTURE: 18 YEARS OLD
--
Lucas, Farkle, Maya & Riley were all hanging around in Maya's house. Riley and Farkle were on their phones, and Maya leaned into her couch lazily as Lucas strummed on his guitar, for he had recently learned to play.
"Huckleberry. If you're gonna play a song, at least play a different one." She rolled her eyes and yawned. Lucas smirked and rolled his eyes, playing different chords.
"I don't do instruments." Riley remarked as she turned her phone off.
"Who does? Besides the freak on the couch?" Farkle asked, referring to the perfect Lucas Friar. He rolled his eyes playfully and continued to strum lightly as Maya hummed silently to the tune.
"You know what?" Riley asked as she sat up, looking at everyone. "I think I should start learning an instrument." She looked at Maya. "You still know how to play piano, right?"
"Of course." Maya nodded, getting up. "Want me to teach you a little?" Riley nodded excitedly, and they got up and went to the piano. "Alright sunshine, so here's the basics." She played three notes slowly. "Now copy me." Riley then played the notes back, and smiled. Maya moved up on the keys, and played some more. Riley mirrored her movements, and played it back.
It wasn't until Maya had played one of the black keys on the middle of her piano, that she got nervous.
"Ready?" She had asked and looked at her friend. She began playing the notes, but the minute her polished finger had pressed down on one of the black keys, it let out a strange noise. Maya sucked
in a breath, and looked at Riley. Riley looked confused as she heard the noise, and looked at her friend questionably.
"What was that?" Riley wondered, curious.
"Uh.." Maya tried to think of something. "Probably just a worn out key. It's alright, I'll get it fixed." She smiled assuringly. Riley nodded, and she awkwardly continued on, and completely avoided the note. Riley and now Lucas both seemed suspicious, but shrugged it off, or that's what Maya at least thought.

2 hours later
~
"I'm hungry. Do you guys want anything to eat? I have soup... And uh, soup." Maya smiled sheepishly. "We haven't gone shopping in a long while."
"That's fine." Riley smiled. Maya nodded and walked to the kitchen. As soon as she left the room, Riley walked over to the piano quickly, quietly opened the top, and looked for the troubled key.
Eventually she found it, and noticed that something was stuck in between it. Furrowing her brows, she reached inside and picked up the intriguing object. It was a flash drive-which made Riley even more confused. Why in a piano? Lucas looked at Riley's curious face, and spotted the flash drive in her hand. Riley gently put the piano cover back down, and flinched at the sound of Maya's voice. She quickly put the drive in her pocket, and turned around to see her friend. Maya smiled at her, and asked her what kind she wanted. Riley replied that whatever is fine, and Maya nodded, walking back to the kitchen.
--
Later on, when Riley went on home, she walked into her bedroom. She took the flash drive out of her pocket and bit her lip, unsure of whether to watch whatever it was. Suddenly, her window slid up and she turned, her heart racing. But it was only Lucas and Farkle. "What are you guys doing here?" She asked, hiding the drive behind her back.
"We know what you found." Lucas replied.
"And we wanna see what is on it." Farkle added, nodding.
"Guys... I don't even think that I should be doing this. Imagine how upset she'd be once we watch it." Riley frowned, and looked at the flash drive in her hands. "It doesn't feel right to do this."
"She won't even have to know." Lucas said. "And maybe... After we watch or read whatever is on it, we'll tell her afterward." He scratched the back of his neck.
Riley looked nervous, and felt a nervous flip in her stomach. "I.. Guess." She gulped. With that, she sat at her desk, turned on her computer, and hesitantly plugged in the flash drive.
Lucas, Farkle, and Riley's hearts were racing as it loaded up.
And then popped up a paused video of no other than Maya Hart, smiling and sitting in a chair with her legs crossed.
Riley looked at the two, and took a deep breath. She unpaused the video, and all three began watching.
~
Riley and I can get through anything. And when she watches this, she better not get all cliché. I'm warning you, Riles." She pointed her finger at the camera to inform her best friend.
Riley smiled and looked down. It was exactly how she felt at that moment. Fuzzy and warm.
~
Don't change anything. You're too important to your friends to even try. And when you and Riley get together- Riley, I'm SO calling it, I will say I told you so. Because I have. A lot." She emphasized the t.
Farkle looked at Riley, and Riley looked back. She smiled at him, leaned in, and kissed him square on the lips. After a moment, she pulled away.
"And now. She can say she told you so." Riley smiled warmly at her new leveled partner.
~
After a while of her talking, Riley and Farkle yawned. "I'm gonna take a nap. You can watch and tell me what happened." Riley told Lucas as her and Farkle  both leaned back on her bed, drifting off into a deep sleep. Lucas chuckled, and looked back at Maya. She seemed nervous, and he seemed curious.
"And now, Huckleberry. Oh by the way, future me, that's Lucas Friar." She scrunched her nose when she said his real name. "He's a ranger Rick and a hopalong & a Sundance too." She said in a sing songy voice. Lucas laughed, and continued to watch with curious eyes. She took a breath, and looked back up at the video camera.
"Riley knows this already but, I have a crush on you. Years when we all watch this, it won't matter but, right now it does a lot to me." Maya's cheeks turned bright pink. Lucas's eyebrows raised up at the girl's words as he continued listening.
Lucas recalled when they had their moment back in Texas, and how she had muttered that she liked him. He didn't quite remember when they came back from Texas and after that incident, but this time, he was getting a full on reminder.
He thought back to all the ha-hurs, including that most recent one she had done, and thought about their close and secure friendship.
But he also thought about their intimate moments, and the thoughts that would bubble through his mind about her, and the dreams he had in the past, and how much he held back from her.
He noticed that whenever he was around her, there was tension that flew through the air. And it took him this long to really realize it. He then paused the video, and plugged the flash drive out. He breathed out a shaky breath at the new thoughts that appeared in his mind, and he continued pondering on them, until he heard a voice.
"Did you like what I said?"
Lucas flinched, and he slowly turned around to see the blonde curly haired girl before him, climbing into the room. She looked radiant and vibrant all at the same time. "I figured you'd find it eventually." She shrugged. Maya seemed awfully calm, and it scared him. "And you'd find out how I felt about you and yada yada. I knew." She half smiled. Maya looked at the sleeping Riley and Farkle. She walked closer to Farkle, and whispered, "I told you so." But he didn't awaken. She looked back at Lucas, and bit her lip.
"So... This is a lot of talking." She commented.
"Yeah." Lucas awkwardly put his hands in hit pockets. "So... That's how you feel about me?"
"That's how I feel about you." Maya nodded, sighing as she pressed her lips together. Lucas looked at her for a moment, and walked closer to her. "What are you doing?" She said in a small voice. He brushed the hair out of her face, and smiled. Maya gulped, and felt her palms sweating. Lucas pulled something out of his pocket, and handed it to her. Maya looked at what it was, and it appeared to be a flash drive... Lucas's flash drive, with the label "Time Capsule" drawn on with sharpie.
"Maybe it's time we compare & contrast our little conversations about each other." Lucas smiled, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. She bit her lip, and looked back up at him with a small smile playing on her lips. They walked to Riley's computer, and plugged it in.
Maya could faintly hear Riley's voice whispering, "I told you so." As she smirked. Lucas's hand appeared around her waist, pulling her closer and kissing her lips as they attempted to watch his video.
