"Hi Maya." Riley smiled, approaching her best friend with a skip of her feet.
"Hey Riles, what's up?" Maya asked as she turned around to greet her.
"In the mood to paint purple cats." She giggled. "You?"
"Ah nothing. Not enjoying school." Maya chuckled as she looked around their homeroom class.
"Of course." She cooed. The mood, as always, turned serious and Maya mentally rolled her eyes. "So um." Riley began. "How are you... Doing?" She questioned.
"Don't do that." Maya shook her head, keeping a fake smirk on her face.
"Do what?"
"That!" Maya exclaimed. "Asking me if I'm okay. I'm fine. I will be okay. I'm getting over the whole thing, and so is he." She exasperated. "There's no need to question me." She lowered her voice and attitude, looking down at her shoes.
"Sorry." Riley sighed. "I just- I know he was something special."
"Something special? Maya scoffed. "Riley. We were star crossed lovers. Meaning, it wasn't meant to be anyway."
"Maya, don't say that." Riley said in a stern tone. "You know what you had with him was more than that."
Maya remained silent, but sat down in her chair in a loss of words. "And I hope you believe that." Riley soothed her voice, her face filled with sympathy.
Lucas then walked into class as usual, Maya and his eye's meeting for at least a second before sitting down in his chair behind the girl, taking his books out for class. Maya sunk in her seat just a bit, taking a breath and looking at the front of the class with emotionless eyes.

Later on
-----
Maya walked in the hallway after her last class, gripping the strap on her backpack. She was about to enter her next class when something met the corner of her eye. She looked at the spot and Lucas was at the lockers, talking to stupid Missy Bradford. Maya's heart sunk, and she bit her cheek from the inside as she immediately walked to class, negative energy flowing through her veins.
She sat down in her chair, and pushed a strand of hair out of her face as she waited for the teacher to teach.
"Pst."
Maya had thought she heard something, but ignored it.
"Psssst."
Okay, this was just annoying.
"Pst!"
She spun around in her chair with annoyance and looked at the boy constantly making annoying sounds in her ear. "What?"
"Can I borrow a pencil?" The boy asked. Maya sighed, and gave him one from her bag.
"Done?"
"Do you wanna go out with me?"
"What?" Maya was taken aback, shaking her head to make sure she was hearing.
"What?" The boy asked. "I didn't say anything."
Maya slowly spun back to the front, knowing it was only her thoughts that were messing with her head. Why couldn't she get over that stupid guy?
Maya and Lucas had a serious relationship for about 1 year, and were perfectly happy, But something ended up getting in the way of that.
One week ago~
~~~~~~~
Lucas walked over to the door of his house, opening it to reveal some random classmate from his school.
"Hi Lucas." The girl greeted with a giggle that could probably irritate anyone.
"Umm.. You're Becca right?" Lucas asked, his expression puzzled as to what the girl was doing here.
"Yeah!" She nodded. "And I know you are Lucas. So I was wondering if you wanted-"
Maya's car pulled up in Lucas's driveway to watch a movie with him as they promised. She looked at his front door but saw a girl there, twirling her hair and standing way too close to Lucas. Her eyes widened as she saw the event happening right in front of her. It looked like Lucas was trying to get her out, but the girl had suddenly grabbed his face and started to kiss him. And for the first time, angered energy zapped into her veins and she could feel her arms tensing up as she gripped her steering wheel. And with that, she opened the door, slamming it on the way as she stomped up the stairs, creeping behind the girl. She took one single breath, before,
"What the hell are you doing?" She shouted. The dumb girl pulled away from Lucas, smiling at her.
"Hi Maya!" She greeted. Maya's nose scrunched together in anger and she slapped the girl right across from the face.
"I'm his girlfriend." Maya said. "Incase you didn't know." A tear fell down the girl's face as she held her cheek as she ran away. Maya looked at her boyfriend's frightened face.
"Maya-"
"Save it." Maya said, walking down the stairs. She walked back into her car and tears started to build up in her eyes as she drove away.
~~~~
Maya bit her lip at the thought, and refrained from crying again. No. There wasn't a purpose in crying over him, because nothing would change. He would still be in that hallway and she'd still be here, thinking about him. Lucas walked in the room, automatically sucking in a breath when he saw Maya sitting there looking into space. He sat down a couple seats away from her. But stared at her blonde beautiful curls.
He wanted her back more than ever.
----
"Maya are you okay? You seem kinda distracted." Riley asked as Maya stared at her lunch sadly. She quickly shook her head, bringing herself back before she noticed any of her emotion.
"Yeah, I'm fine." Maya shrugged it off, eating some of her salad. She started being normal and casual again, until she saw Lucas walk in, a girl talking to him and smiling. They were both laughing, but talking about something she couldn't hear. Maya stared at the two of them and her heart started sinking again. A pain ached in her chest. She couldn't see him with anyone else, but now she was literally seeing him with someone else.
Riley noticed her expression, knowing Maya was about to break down. Riley put a hand on Maya's shoulder. She looked back at her friend, put her hand over Riley's, but quickly got up and ran out of the lunch room. Lucas looked up as she ran out the door, Riley quickly running after her.
Maya ran into the bathroom, a couple of tears rolling down her face. Riley came inside and saw Maya crying near the sinks.
"Maya, I'm so sorry." Riley hugged her friend. Maya hugged her back, crying more. She pulled away, looking at her best friend.
"I'm not okay Riley. I won't be okay." Maya choked out. "It looks like he's happy, and I have to be here, crying over him. I won't ever stop missing him."
"I promise you Maya. There's no way you guys are going to be over forever."
"Riley don't you see it? He's moved on already!" Maya exclaimed, wiping the wetness of her cheeks.
"This can't be the full story. No. There has to be more, I just can't believe it. I won't believe it." Riley said in a comforting tone. She thought for a second, and looked back at her friend. "I'll be right back." She ran out of the bathroom and back into the lunch room, approaching Lucas. "We need to talk. Like now." Riley snapped. Lucas nodded, getting up as they went to a corner of the room.
"Why are you hurting her?" Riley asked. "Why are you doing nothing to fix this?"
"Riley, there's so much more that is going on. You don't have to worry-"
"Yes I do. I have to worry, because Maya is my best friend. And I won't you hurt her like this." Riley kept on talking, not letting Lucas say anything.
"Riley!" He cut her off, exclaiming. "Look, I've only been talking to other girls because I want to get back together with her... So I'm kind of asking them for advice." Lucas shrugged, looking down as his face went pink.
"You have?" She asked, her eyebrows furrowing sympathetically.
"I have." He reassured, looking back up into the distance. "It's been really hard without her. She doesn't know this, but.." Lucas looked at his close friend. "I fell in love with her. Really fell."
"You guys haven't said I love you yet?" She asked him.
"She's shy when it comes to love; she's always been." Lucas responded. Riley smiled at the boy.
"Well, then I think you guys will be fine. I want to paint you guys a purple sparkling cat." Riley smiled wide and Lucas laughed.
"Have fun with that." He chuckled. "I'll see you later." And with that, he walked away.
---
Lucas was in a rush, running in the hall to go talk to Maya, while Maya was in a rush, also running in the hall to yell at Lucas. They were both so consumed in their thoughts that they didn't notice when they suddenly ran right into each other. They both fell on the ground, groaning and rubbing their heads. That was definitely gonna leave a bruise.
The two's eyes met finally, and Maya bit her lip hard. Of. Course.
"Did you do that purposely?" Maya snapped when they both got up.
"Of course not." Lucas responded. Maya glared at him and began to walk away, until he grabbed her arm back, pulling her closer again.
"Lucas.. Just leave me alone." Maya spoke in a soft voice, trying to look him in the eyes rather than his lips.
"I won't ever do that." Lucas responded to her, looking deeply into her eyes. She furrowed her brows in frustration, trying to pull away.
"No. I can't do this, you need to let me go. I know you want Missy. You can go and have all the girls you want!" She yelled in his face, struggling to let go.
"I don't want any other girl Maya I want you!" He yelled back as he held her from leaving.
"You cheated on me!" She exclaimed.
"She kissed me! Why would I do that to you?" Lucas continued yelling back at her.
"I don't know. Why would you not do that?" She responded, trying to slap his arm.
"I wouldn't do that because I don't want anyone else. I don't love anyone else, because I love you!" Lucas finally revealed, looking at Maya straight in the eyes. Her eyes softened, a spark lighting up within them. She stopped trying to get out of his grip, putting her hand on his shoulder.
"You do?" She asked, lining her eyebrows nervously.
"I do." Lucas pulled the girl closer to him, wiping away a fallen tear on her cheek. She finally smiled a bit, and more tears filled her eyes. "Why are you crying?" He asked.
"I don't think anyone loves me like you do." She said, wiping a tear away, smiling at Lucas with love. "Why are you putting up with me?"
"Because I can. And you already I know I love you, so there's no way out." Lucas told his girlfriend. She blushed, looking down. He lifted her chin up so that he got to look into her ocean blue eyes again, and the leaned in and kissed her. She snaked her hands around his neck, and for the first time, their hearts felt fulfilled. They weren't missing any pieces to them, and their sparks swarmed around them like bees, just circling around consistently and in a pattern.
Riley walked out of the other room, and saw the two in the hall. She smiled at the couple reclaiming their love for each other. Maya pulled away from Lucas, and laced her hands through his. "I love you too." She told him, and he looked right back down at her with a smile.
"Finally." Riley exclaimed, clapping her hands and jumping up and down. "You guys deserve that purple sparkling cat." She smiled widely as the couple laughed. Maya walked over to her along with Lucas, and she hugged her friend.
"Thank you, Riley." They both unintentionally said unison.
"What are friends for?" Riley smiled at them. They all walked down the hall together, Lucas kissing Maya's temple, on the way to their next class.
