The Ha-Hurr was Maya Hart's signature line. Especially to the one boy that she could not stop teasing. It was an addiction, and he was her drug. Wait.. That might've sounded like she actually liked him. Hah! There isn't any proof there.
I mean, besides that one time she ha-hurred Lucas.
But that's a different story for later. Let's start at.. Number 4.
---
"Why can't we just agree on this one topic, Maya? It's one thing. And we'll never have to think or talk about it again. It's one project." Lucas exasperated, clearly annoyed at his blonde haired partner.
"Because I think it's dumb. And besides, you picked last time." Maya raised her eyebrows, crossing her arms. Lucas looked at her like she had two heads, furrowing his brows.
"You picked last time." He corrected, and Maya smirked.
"You're right. See? We can agree on some things."
Lucas sighed, looking at his close friend again. "Just let me be in charge of this one project."
Maya bit the inside of her lip slightly, dropping her shoulders slightly as she relaxed up. Lucas looked at her with a spark of hope, hoping the girl had a change of heart for the first time. And he good actually get to witness it.
Well, he thought too soon.
As Maya looked down, her frown dropped into a smile again, and she avoided his gaze. But he already knew what she was thinking from what he could tell. He then groaned. "Maya."
Her eyes traveled to his, sparking and shimmering with amusement. It just took a couple of seconds to prepare, and then, "HA-HURR!", Her face really close to his. At the time, Their noses were directly in front of each other.
Lucas flinched at her loud signature noise, and she laughed, backing her face away from his. "Ah, that was good." She smiled proudly.
"So I take that as a no?" Lucas pouted, emphasizing his expression by his bottom lip sticking out a bit.
"You are so right, huckleberry!" Maya cheered, grabbing her binder out of her backpack, setting the binder on her table. This was her rules.
---
And why, number three was quite fun. Especially for the two of them. Nothing better than just sitting around, talking to your friends all about Texas. Of corse when Maya stepped in, things got exciting.
----
Zay smirked as Lucas explained the non embarrassing parts of his time in Texas. He talked about how liked he was in school, and how many badass situations he got into. Riley would shake her head in disappointment whenever he'd explain those parts. Farkle's eyes would actually pop out of his sockets each time he talked about his rebellious Texas stories.
But Zay had to be, well, Zay, and interrupt. "Lucas come on. You have to tell them some embarrassing stories."
This got Maya's attention.
"Embarrassing, stories?" Maya's smile definitely increased more than anyone really expected. "Do tell, Zay."
Zay was about to open his mouth, but Lucas quickly flew a hand right in front of it, preventing him from talking. "Oh come on. It'll be funny." Maya rolled her eyes, pleading her friend. He sighed, and uncovered Zay's mouth.
"Well, we had this square dancing thing. And Lucas had the sickest moves, man. It was hilarious." Zay laughed, remembering his best friends cool moves.
"Hey huckleberry, why don't you show us these moves?" Maya laughed also, looking up at him with her big blue eyes.
"Come on Maya, you're torturing him." Riley looked at Maya with disapproval.
"Thank you, Riley." Lucas smiled. Riley arched an eyebrow up in confusion.
"I didn't mean that I didn't want you to show us. Now do it!"
Lucas rolled his eyes. He began stepping back twice, stepping forward twice, and making a pivot with his feet. As he danced, they all laughed and cheered. He seemed to be getting into it, so he got more excited as he did it. Maya wanted to ruin his perfect moment, so she simply stood up as he was in lala land, and when he was getting closer, she stuck her leg out, and he tripped suddenly, tumbling down on the floor. Lucas remained there, looking up at the ceiling lamely.
"Thank you, pancakes."
She bent down to his level, and got close to his face. Riley's cheeks burned as she saw Maya go close to him. Were they finally going to be together? What Riley expected as a kiss, turned out to be nothing other then,
"HA-HURR!"
Lucas opened his squinted eyes when she finished yelling it, rubbing his ear. "I appreciate that." He mumbled, and as smiled, backing her face away from him. Riley looked at the two, smiling mischievously. She was the first to notice something between the two.
---
And, number two. Now, this was one away from number one. Brace yourselves, readers. You're in for one hell of a ride.
---
Lucas and Maya were lying on the couch, their feet lying on the coffee table as they watched their show. Obviously Maya didn't accept Lucas's theories about the show. So they argued and argued.
"You're wrong. That guy is definitely the killer." Lucas exclaimed, pointing his finger at the television aggressively.
"No! I told you so many times already. He's too predictable! Forget him already, huckleberry." Maya responded, shaking her head.
"I'm telling you, wait. This episode is the reveal of it." Lucas looked at her with serious eyes, and she rolled her own.
Ten minutes left in the show, and their eyes were completely glued into the screen. Maya was more anxious than Lucas, considering that he thought he was completely right. She bit the inside of her lip, her heart beating out of her chest.
The figure slowly turned around as the music became suspenseful, and the camera zoomed in.
And...
Maya jumped up with pride and confidence.
"I KNEW IT!" She screamed. As Lucas covered his face. "I TOLD YOU! I WIN! Take that, huckleberry!" Maya slapped his shoulder, doing a little cheer. "Oh, and one more thing." Lucas uncovered his face, looking at her. She leaned in very close, her lips literally 10 centimeters from his. And what she did, made him flinch.
"HA-HURRRRRR!" She screamed into his face, a wide smile painted on after she finished. Lucas squinted his eyes, his mouth tightly closed.
"Are you done?" He asked, his face close to hers. She nodded, closing her eyes as she pulled her face away. For a second, they breathed each other's air, and tension was shifting around. Maya almost blushed, for the first time. And that, was the moment she realized she liked Ranger Rick.
-----
Ah number 1. Well, this is gonna be a hell of a ride.
------
A month later, Lucas had a girlfriend. It was unofficial, but he thought that maybe if he dated someone, it's keep his mind off his crush. Crush, meaning someone that probably could not like him back--ever.
Maya was obviously annoyed about this, and this is actually when he first told her. She hated his girlfriend, Kat. She was this prissy cheerleader, who only liked Lucas because he played basketball and was liked by everyone.
But Maya, Maya liked Lucas for Lucas. She liked every single thing about him. She liked his stupid remarks, and some of the nicknames he called her, which didn't last too long before he kicked him in a bad place.
But Maya hoped that maybe one day, her feelings wouldn't just be one-sided.
So on this particular day, Lucas was going to go on a date, but Maya-- why am I still talking? I'll just leave it to them.
----
"Hey guys." Lucas smiled as Maya and Riley walked over.
"What's up Lucas?" Riley smiled. Maya breathed out, realizing she must've been holding her breath as he looked at her.
"I have a date with Kat tonight actually. It's actually the first time she wants to go on a real date." Lucas said. Maya's blood burned with jealousy, but she tried on expressing it on her face. Instead, she forced a neutral look.
"Fun." Maya commented, about to walk  away.
"Wait- Maya?" Lucas called, and she turned back around, her blonde curls flying almost dramatically.
She looked puzzled. "Yeah?" Riley looked at the two, and walked away slowly.
Lucas walked closer to Maya. "It's a funny question, but I was wondering if you can give me some tips about this date. I mean, you went out with Josh about a year ago. And um--so can you?"
Maya looked it him, giving him a nervous smile. "I uh, guess so, Huckleberry."
Lucas smiled. "Great, I'll see you later after school at your place."
Maya nodded, and he walked on. God, this was gonna be a mess.
~
Maya impatiently waited on her bed for Lucas to come, twiddling her thumbs and looking out her window.
Seconds later, the window opened up and Lucas came in suddenly. "I feel like no one knows what doors are anymore." Maya raised her brows as he came in.
"Hi to you too, Maya." Lucas shook his head, smiling.
"So, what do you need help with anyway, Lucas Huckleberry Friar?" Maya continuously teased.
"Okay honestly, I just need some tips. I feel like I'm gonna screw this up. Kat isn't an easy girl. She's kinda like, un," He tried finding a proper word for her.
"A bitch?" Maya asked, a smile forming onto her face.
"Ha-ha." Lucas rolled his eyes. "Anyway, first question. Do I play for her or do we split something?"
"You guys should split it. I mean, she has to have some manners too. Not like Kat does anyway." Maya almost laughed.
"Maya." He scolded.
"What? Can't I openly say that I don't like her?" Maya defended herself, crossing her arms. He rolled his eyes again.
"Okay next question. How do you show a girl that you want to like.. Kiss her." Lucas asked, a blush appearing on his face.
"Okay." Maya moved closer to Lucas as they both sat on her bed. "Well, if you guys are somewhere where you're sitting directly next to each other, you should probably put your arm around her, like this." Maya took his arm, and wrapped it around her neck, keeping his hand loose. Lucas bit his lip, swallowing an invisible lump in his throat. "And, you have to look at her a certain way." Maya said, her voice getting quiet. Her eyes looked at his lips, and she raised her eyebrows a little, taking a breath. She looked back up at his eyes. "Like that."
"Oh, o-okay." Lucas said, looking at her lips also. She noticed this, and then she noticed him leaning into her. She was about to let this happen, but the thought of Kat quickly made her snap out of it. She stood up, and refused to let herself tear up in front of him.
"That's all you should know. Have fun with Kat." Maya tried not to sound snappy, but her words definitely sounded that way.
"Why do you have an issue with her?" Lucas finally asked. "Why are you constantly saying that stuff about her? You didn't even say half that stuff about Missy Bradford." He exclaimed. Maya stayed silent, furrowing her brows. "And you're only mad because I have a point."
"You wouldn't even get it anyway." Maya replied, looking at the window.
"What's not to get?" Lucas asked.
"Nothing."
"Maya."
"Lucas, don't press me." Maya flashed her eyes dangerously at him.
"All I want to know is why." Lucas pressed, again.
"You wanna know why?" Maya exclaimed. "Because I didn't have to be jealous of freaking Missy Bradford! Did you need to hear that? Did you?"
"Jealous?-"
"How do you not get it get? I fell for you. And had to suffer as you flirted with people who came your way! It's not like I-" Maya stopped talking. "You know what? Forget it. There's no use explaining this to you." Lucas walked closer to her. "Ranger Rick, if you come any closer, I will make the loudest ha-hur that you'll ever hear." She warned. Lucas took a big step forward so he was directly in front of the girl.
"Okay, you asked for it. HA---" Maya was about to make the loudest one he's ever heard, but she spoke too late, because he cut her off. He quickly placed his lips on hers, pulling the girl closer by the waist. Her eyebrows immediately went up and she began digging her hands through his hair as his hand caressed her waist.
He pulled away and Maya looked awfully vulnerable. "Hur." She finished, in just one word.
Lucas's phone buzzed, and he answered it. "Hi Kat." He bit his lip. "I don't think I can do this anymore." Maya quickly looked back at him, her eyes widening. He hung up his phone, and immediately set his hands on her waist.
"Um." She choked out.
"Maya." Lucas began. "I'm so in love with you." Her breath got caught in her throat as she heard him say that.
"I- love you too, huckleberry." Maya blushed, looking down. "Lucas." She corrected.
"I think Ranger Rick is my favorite." He smiled, pulling her closer, capturing her lips into another kiss.
